Retrospective for week commencing 2021-04-04 on my language learning
🌿 What went well?
still spending non-trivial time every week on language learning
🌿 What didn't go so well?
I can't quite settle on the version of the French and Japanese bibles, I'm currently leaning towards Parole de Vie-2017 and Shinkaiyaku-2017
🌿 What have I learnt?
I do find the book of Genesis more and more fascinating intellectually, historically, culturally, as literature and beyond.
I do find it interesting that Islam has a somewhat different creation story from Judaism and Christianity but Noah is still there.
🌿 What still puzzles me?
the optimal way to level up in a foreign language using bilingual wisdom literature, e.g. Assimil vs other recommended "algorithm"

“Don’t do anything that isn’t play.” – Marshall Rosenberg When I first read this years ago I thought, “What do you mean, Marshall? I’ve got a ton to do. I’ve got a job to go to, dishes to wash, laundry to fold, meals to cook, a house needs cleaning, and a sick kid to take care of. None of that is play and I can’t find the time to take care of myself, exercise, relax, or spend time with a friend. How can I play when I have all these responsibilities to others?”

ERG theory is a theory in psychology proposed by Clayton Alderfer. ERG theory. When needs in a category are satisfied, an individual will invest more efforts in the higher category. When needs in a category are frustrated, an individual will invest more efforts in the lower category. Alderfer further developed Maslow's hierarchy of needs by categorizing the hierarchy into his ERG theory (Existence, Relatedness and Growth). The existence category is concerned with the need for providing the basic material existence requirements of humans. The relatedness category is concerned about the desire for maintaining important interpersonal relationships. The growth category is concerned about the desire for personal development. These include the intrinsic component from Maslow's esteem category and the characteristics included under self-actualization.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is an idea in psychology proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper "A theory of Human Motivation" in Psychological Review.[2] There is little scientific basis to the idea: Maslow himself noted this criticism. Maslow subsequently extended the idea to include his observations of humans' innate curiosity. His theories parallel many other theories of human developmental psychology, some of which focus on describing the stages of growth in humans. He then created a classification system which reflected the universal needs of society as its base and then proceeding to more acquired emotions.[3]

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

A night-watchman state or minarchy is a model of a state that is limited and minimal, whose only functions are to act as an enforcer of the non-aggression principle by providing citizens with the military, the police and courts, thereby protecting them from aggression, theft, breach of contract, fraud and enforcing property laws. Its proponents are called minarchists.[1][2][3]

A personal manifesto helps keep your priorities focused. It’s written with strong, empowering language so on days you may not feel 100% or when you could use some additional encouragement, you can reminded yourself what you’re capable of, and what you’re working towards. (This can be especially important if what you’re working toward takes a lifetime to achieve!) 🌿 My life has been drifting so much not having written one 😰
