It always drives me nuts when someone says type one is the "good kind" because it's such a loaded phrase. The person saying it probably doesn't even comprehend the decades of anti-fat propaganda that underpins it (and that's not even touching on how society views people who are chronically ill - to call that bad would be an understatement).
Diabetes as a whole is such a misunderstood (willfully in some cases) disease. I *get* why people with type one lean into the whole "good vs. bad" diabetes rhetoric as it's often the only empathy we get for such a challenging illness. HOWEVER, we have a responsibility to our fellow diabetics to delve a bit deeper and feel a bit more empathy for people who no more 'did it to themselves' than we did.
I'm sure there's also a little jealousy that goes on, too. When the wider world looks at your disease and doesn't see how challenging it is EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. it can be difficult to have empathy for diabetics who don't have to do as much as others to manage their disease.
There's talk of changing the name of type one to something different and I wholeheartedly understand why people want to do this. But for me, the name isn't the problem. Society as a whole is the issue (when isn't it). We need more understanding and less ignorance about the challenges people with any chronic illness face in their daily lives. More understanding that illness/dieases/disability should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of any circumstance will go a long way to helping this.
damn people rly hate type 2 diabetics don't they

I wouldn't call myself middle-aged (definitely getting there, at least that's what it feels like), but I've definitely played a comedic role written for a man and... it was so. Much. FUN. I had freedom that I've not had before to just ham it up. It was a blast. If you've never been given the chance to do it, I'd definitely recommend!

See, this is why I hate driving, but I've never been able to find all the words and put them all together at once. Every time I get in my car, this just runs on repeat in my head.
i hate driving. here are the laws! if you break them there will be consequences! except youre also expected to break the law just a little bit. people will get mad at you if you dont. you dont have right of way but the person who does is waving you forward for some reason. here's the speed limit! it's not the speed limit, the actual speed limit is that plus ~5-10. the light is green but you're in the turning lane. can you go? should you have gone just then? the person behind you is honking at you. there's a weird noise coming from your engine; if you try to do the right thing and get it checked out, will you get scammed? you are driving a 1-2 ton metal machine rocketing at speeds unknown to humankind for most of history. around a million people die in car accidents every year; that's about one person every thirty seconds. if you take that seriously and try to drive safely then people get mad at you.

I have nothing to add, only that I've always felt guilty about reading fanfic. Mainly because it felt like the junk-food equivalent of reading. But now I'm beginning to see it differently. I read constantly, I need to read constantly, and fanfiction is a way for me to feel comfort in a lonely world. Thank you for saying all of these things.

it is so important that you are a little bit ugly. please get comfortable with having unplucked eyebrows and nonexistent jawlines and wrinkles. let your blue hair grow out into an uneven pale green and your clothes be old and mend them and modify them until they’re unique to you. wear lipstick which doesnt compliment your skintone and mismatched outfits which went out of fashion 5 years ago. be a little bit too loud and a little bit too passionate and as weird as you can be because oh my god there is nothing more disturbing to me than perfection. beauty is manufactured and sold to us and you need to realise that you are a fucking animal to live a joyful life I am so serious. you cant obsess over aesthetics forever please just live messily and make your body your home however you please.
if you dont do it for you, do it for all the teenagers who will see u in the street and know that they are not obligated to be attractive

Today's ruling by the Supreme Court was and will remain, a disgrace. It's a step back for everyone. Because when you make a point of further marginalising an already marginalised community, you show that it's not really about justice. It's really about oppression. It's not really about being "accurate", it's about control. It's not really about equality, it's about pandering to bigots.
Trans people deserve to be respected in the eyes of the law, women (of all kinds) and men (of all kinds) should expect to be treated fairly under the equality act. It's clear now, however, that the equality act its just that in name only.
The supreme court might say that trans women are still protected under the law, but we can all see where this is headed. You erode a marginalised person's protections, bit by bit, until they have none left. Pessimistic though it is, I can't help but think this is a slippery slope.
UK folks - if you are a fellow trans person. Look after yourself today.
If you know a trans person, make sure they know they are loved and cared for.
If you are an ally, stand with us. Remember that trans men are men, trans women are women and nonbinary people know themselves better than you. Uplift and support us, now more than ever.

The light in this painting is just... wow. I feel.like I'm there, at sunset watching the volcano smoke in the distance and hearing the crickets chirp. It feels hot, the atmosphere thick with the heat, but mostly.it feels serene.

If you're trans and live in the UK, you need to start the process of getting your NHS details updated yesterday.
The Sullivan report came out on the 19th March and it is at least as much of a disaster for us as the Cass Review and - like the Cass Review - it is already being used to justify an overreach it does not explicitly recommend.
Within 24 hours of its release, the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting (a plague be upon his house), has banned under 18s from changing the sex marker on their NHS records and said that an adult ban is forthcoming (archive link of a Telegraph article).
Changing your NHS record is easy(ish) and free but it isn't fast. It does not require a GRC, formal diagnosis, or surgery. If you want to do it at all, do it now.

That feeling when you're reading fanfic in public and the fluff is just fluff-ing, and the whump is just whump-ing, and the ship is just ship-ing (sailing?). And you just want o do a lil' happy dance or make a lil' happy squeal but you can't... because you're in the dentist's waiting room and you know they'll put "makes strange noises" in your notes if you do. Yeah, fandom is hard *sigh*

It's sooooooooooooooooooo good that Genly enters societies that are functionally the same as Terran ones but just have a different Gender Baseline, they're just as intersexist and transphobic as he is (as all misogynists are !) and the society he came from, but now he is placed in the same Other category as them, and there's no societal reinforcement for his misogyny and masculinity so the image of himself he built decays and lashes out about it, because founding your identity on what society decides is right will always make you unhappy !! People aren't that different from you and if you view them as some Other thing you will make your own unhappiness fester within you by denying yourself more experiences and releasing yourself from societal demand
