There's also the fact that some of them who are artists or creators in their "second day job" they had to take on more freelance work to pay the bills because they were released from their "first day job". So they don't remotely have time for their "fun stuff".

Can you indulge me please, given the recent pandemic why is it that artist or fanfic writers are slowing down their works? I ask because personally I believe this makes it a better opportunity to work faster, as something to distract from the gloomy reality occurring.

I'll indulge you, but I'm afraid you won't like my answer very much.

The reason authors and artists aren't working their asses off MORE is because this is a pandemic, not a vacation.

It's not 'extra free time' for everyone.

For many it's 'my grandfather just died of COVID' time.

For many, it's 'I got laid off and am desperately trying to look for a way not to get evicted' time.

For many, it's 'I'm isolated from my friends, family and other sources of inspiration, I'm at home alone trying to deal with the world at large collapsing' time.

It's time to go out and protest for their rights. It's time to fall into a depression because they can't pay for medicine, because they're worried about a loved one with an immunodeficiency, because they have to decide whether to pay full tuition for taking classes online, which isn't as easy to learn from and feels like a rip-off.

I feel like this needs to be reiterated - fanfiction and fanart USUALLY doesn't pay. It's a hobby. Most fanfic authors aren't armcandy to a wealthy millionaire, and they can't just ignore other important life necessities in order to keep updating their 50k coffeeshop AU. It's not a viable career, and it will not keep you afloat. And while yes, many use it as an escape, many also can't write when they aren't safe, secure and know where their next paycheck is coming from.

So I'm not very surprised many creators are taking time away. They have lives, loved ones, other responsibilities, and at least one of those three is very likely a clusterfuck right now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Be kind. Always assume everyone is doing their best. You never know what someone else might be going through.

I think you genuinely do believe that the "guidelines" Trump is giving to Women Only shelters is meant to help, but you have to understand that with the way they're worded and constructed there is a high chance they're going to be twisted and abused to deny trans women shelter, and that's likely by design. We can say "we'll surely they'll only be used to keep men who are pretending out, and won't be used against trans women," but that won't happen. Exceptions won't be made

Whilst this sounds awful, it's not as cut and dried as you're making out. He's not discriminating against trans women. He's helping women only shelters when it comes to allowing men to stay because they claim they're trans.

Think how you'd feel if you were a very very vulnerable woman in a women's only shelter and they let a guy in because they claim to be trans, but they're actually not. (Well, who would dare question them in today's day and age?!)

You would go apeshit at the shelter for not protecting you!

You actually ruined this feel good and warm story by insisting on telling everyone that the pastor is black. So what? He's amazing regardless of his skin colour. Why do you have to bring race into a feel good story?!

It's either one of three, so far that I have, you're saying

"look at this amazing generosity of a black person, that you all always think is scum and commit crimes"

"this black pastor is putting his race aside to help all walks of life"

Or finally

"this black pastor is doing good, see, all black lives matter"

He did good with the help of the community, they worked together and helped this happen.

The only reason this country keeps increasing the age at which one officially retires, is because they're working out how many of the retirees would be actually dead by the new age of retirement, therefore never even applying to claim it.

So if their statistics state this year that most people would not reach 80 years old, they'd increase it to 79...

Our dog talks to us using his eyes. Like I'm busy crafting and he wants a cuddle he'll look at me, look at each individual item on my lap and look at me for each item, this will continue until I remove each item, then he'll lie down on the sofa next to my chair and demand fuss there instead.

In the morning if he wants to play he'll put the toy on my lap and repeatedly look at me, then the toy, until I give in and throw it for him.

With Simon, he'll sit in front of Simon, between Simon and the TV, obviously thinking he's big enough to block out the TV (or he's even more clever than I give him credit for, sand he knows he only needs to block out a small portion of the TV and Simon will pause because his Asperger's makes him unable to concentrate on the rest of the TV and try compensate for the literal black out. (he's a black Labrador, I'm not being racist)

Once he's achieved Simon's attention, he'll look towards the back window, then back at Simon, repeatedly. Thus telling Simon he wants to go out.

Every communication between us is done with him knowing what to do with his eyes, none of us has trained him to do this, he just does it. It works every time!

my asshole cat once again comes to me and does his usual indications for “hey, there’s a problem I need you to fix, please help.”

because I love him and he is weirdly smart and actually really good at figuring out problems and getting help (like when he lets me know the bird feeder is empty because he wants to watch the birds) I trustingly get up and follow him.

he reaches the window, outside of which is a thunderstorm. he is very afraid of thunderstorms, and normally does not go anywhere near the windows when they happen. upon reaching the window he indicates in his usual fashion, “here is the problem, please fix it.”

no idea whether to be flattered and endeared that my cat thinks I control the weather, or frustrated because my cat is now mad at me for refusing to control the weather on his behalf. this is the second time this has happened.

Regardless of the scientists and health bods saying there WILL be a second spike and that it'll be worse than the first, they're opening reverting back up, removing quarantine rules for when people come into the country, and not tracking them when they get here, it's just fucking nuts!

Exactly this! I've managed to pinch the mask with the glasses, thus reducing the amount of hot breath venting up the side of the nose, and subsequently preventing steaming up. Until winter comes...
