vamp!Soap turns Ghost ? 👀

Fic WIP Ask game (anon is on)

Oh I had so much fun with ruleslawyersing a vampirism curse that is actually undesirable but manageable, that by itself got a higher wordcount than the fic so far hahaha

It's a setting of some supernatural beings and magic, but mostly humans (because they're better allrounders), otherwise modern verse, military and 141 wise it all stays the same. Soap is cursed into vampirism. Ghost is a human, but Ghost has ISSUES about his humanity thanks to Roba trying to turn him into something else (09 ghost backstory). So when Soap turns Ghost in a near death situation? Ghost really really doesn't take it well. Ironically it's a mostly domest hurt/comfort and learnign to live fic. The actual story starts here:

A quiet, hoarsely rasped, *"What- what did they do to me?"* from the bedroom one floor up is Soap's first hint that his- (and that thought is still terrifying)- *hatchling* is awake.  The second is the loud thump of a body hitting the floor, as Soap sprints up the stairs several at a time.  The third, is Ghost's hands wrapping around Soap's neck after he's wrestled Soap to the ground in a blind panic.  This, Soap hopes, isn't about to set the tone for Ghost's stay here over the next six to twelve months.  Soap holds still, doesn't resist the pressure and doesn't try to get free, he just waits, looks at Ghost whose face is covered in a plain black balaclava that does nothing to hide the wide open bloodshot eyes, the frantic gasps for air. Ghost blinks, leans back a fraction and his hands relax marginally. "Soap?" "Ghost," Soap responds calmly, "we're in a safe location. Just you and me." "Fuck," Ghost curses, yanking his hands away, "Bloody hell I'm sorry Johnny, are you alright? We have to put ice on, it's going to swell and-" Soap puts a gentle hand on Ghost's biceps but doesn't otherwise try to get out from under him, doesn't want to stress Ghost any more than he already is. He doesn't remember this process himself, but his Host had always joked that Soap had been stumbling around like a new born foal for days, punch drunk on magic and fear, "It won't. Don't worry." "Certain?" Ghost asks, tries to stand up but barely makes it to his feet before he sways and his knees buckle. But this is what Soap is here for, stands up and pulls Ghost to the bed before his Lieutenent can fall. "Yes," Soap answers, "You know I'm not human." "Yeah, I- I thought I was-" Ghost presses a hand to his chest, still out of sorts and visibly growing paler when he must realise that his heart isn't beating. Not anymore.

HonHon, well you see, cronusamporaofficial follows me UwU (i wa sunreasonably delighted)

Old Guard AU! this got combined with another fic idea I had.

- Soap has been immortal since 1700 - Alejandro has been immortal since 1900 - They are currently the only two immortals, there were only two other Guards when Soap became immortal and both of them passed about a century later leaving Soap alone.  He travelled to Mexico when he started dreaming of Alejandro (after realising it’s not Spain he needs to go to) and stayed with him for a year until Alejandro asked him for time.   - "I've got nothing but time." is something Soap says a lot - Soap owns a croft in the highlands, it's far from any towns, has well later and only limited solar (most of which supplies the water pump). The building has kitchen/main room, bedroom, storage room, bathroom (the only thing reasonably modernish). It has a former stable that houses lots of the larger equipment from anything like farming, tanning, weaving canning etc. There are two trapdoors in the house. One is a decently sized root cellar, the other (locked) is a passage into an extensive cave system that hold a lot of possessions of the previous Guards.

MWI and II *still* happen as normal, none of the others are (currently) Guards. Of course there will be a dramatic reveal and Gaz, Price and Ghost all end up Guards too (it's a whole thing).

Before that drama though, the fic starts(?) with Ghost being invited to stay in Soap's home during his leave (Soap still deployed) cause he's bored to tears. Here ghost gets lots of foreshadowing to there being more to Soap than meets the eye!

Got lots of concept and a bunch of plot, but something somewhere got me hung up about writing it. Clearly it requires several more long showers and sleepless nights to mull over until everything clicks into place.

Hey! I loved your art of god of explosions soap and alb ghost. Do you have a post going into any of the lore/world building? I love creature aus! If you don't already have a post, I'd love to hear more about it! (Also what's an alb?)

I've not shared anything anywhere yet! Just the two drawings. Not super solid on the world building yet, so I'm gonna wait with sharing that for now until I have a better grip. Do intend to write a fic for these two when I've got some scenes together though!

Ghost being an Alb is generally inspired by the german "Nachtalb". I'm not aiming for him to be precisely that, but it was my jumping-off point. Also I grew up on the 'Alb' spelling, but that might be a regional thing? No idea why in english they quote it only as 'Alp'.

Ghosts abilities aren't something I've completely settled on yet (gotta keep my options open for plot and angst, you never know *rubs hands*), but he's a kind of fear entity. Alb's are myth's answer to sleep apnea, sleep paralysis, nightmares, and night terrors. As such he sustains himself on consuming dreams (rare) and breath, and causing fear (more effectively when it's during people's rest but also when awake), nightmares etc. I'll probs keep some of the mischief Albs are known for, not that anyone would believe it's Ghost which he finds super funny, and also some shapeshifting.

His body is sand based, as a nod to the sandman (folklore), golden sand being dreams he consumed and black his base being from nightmares/dear. His bed's full of sand. His gear is full of sand. He prefers knives to guns cause guns and sand don't mix and having to keep it all together is so annoying. It's rumoured Ghost can control shadows, but it's actually his own black sand he moves around.

I'm pretty sure the skull mask is his actual face, and him making it gold is bragging about eating dreams (not that anyone would know, but it's enough that ghost knows, and considering that there's a god of dreams they're not exactly easy to get ahold of).

I LOVE your au! Just found it through Zero. This world is in desperate need of more bearded vulture content! What do you think other characters/villians would have as Daemons? Like Joker or other justice league members?

Well, here's what I got generally:

Daemons are a human thing, other species don't have it. 

Mixed humans tend to have permanently unsettled daemons.

Well, that was one unscheduled train of thought, but a good one. Have what you actually asked for The List So Far:

It's an earth-bound phenomenon, that only produces earth-animals, no fantasticals (except when it does but shhh).

Maybe earth is actually the only planet with Dust and therefore dust only replicates earth animals? Would a lone human (artificially)born on a different planet fail to thrive/establish a 'soul'? Would they get one first time they encounter another (half-)human that has dust and can therefore 'contaminate' them? Does a human who's never been exposed to Dust even need it, making Dust some mutualistic/parasitic symbiosis? (Plus, is it the removal process or the lack of dust what messes you up?). Would/should it be able to 'infect' aliens that don't have crazy immune systems? This stuff is starting to sound like magic fungi spores...

The Joker! I haven't thought about him before (and my knowledge about him is spotty) but my immediate thought was "Dog". Not because I don't want him to have something 'special', but because I want the Joker's daemon to be this unnervingly normal and commonplace counterbalance.

Just picture it, the Joker off the rails, laughing, gun waving, monologueing, a constant motion and threat and touchy and unpredictable.

And there, at the edge of the scene, sits his daemon. A Kelpie, a herding dog known for being extremely intelligent, highly active and especially indepentent. And it just sits there. Eyes unblinking and honed in on it's human counterpart. If the Joker moves too far it follows, but never closely, always at that same 'out-of-the-way' distance. It never reacts to anyone, or aknowledges anyone. Joker doesn't even act like he knows it's there, he doesn't wait for it, he doesn't hold open car doors, he doesn't speak to it (or it to him).

It's just there. Always watching him.

Attentive.

Waiting.

To have ideas for animals I actually need to know the characters a bit, and so far I haven't explored much beyond the Robins (mainly Tim and Jason, but I am expanding, promise). I only got into DC a year ago and there's an absurd amount of canon/fics/art to catch up on. My general list of "Characters I want to deep-dive one day" is ever growing too, don't ask, at this rate I'm trapped in this fandom forever.

I hope you got....some sort of answer out of all of this. I rarely talk about this AU so when someone asks it all just comes pouring out with an extra brainstorm attached.

idk if this has been asked, but for the deamon au, what's the deamons' characters like? Like, eg., we know Jason's is partially a little sh!t and mischievous, but what about the others?

It hasn't been! I haven't got personalities for everyone, but here's the first four:

Midas (Bruce's Golden Handed Tamarin):

emotionally intelligent, caring, possessive (of others), assertive, affectionate, vocal,

Midas freely and confidently speaks/interacts with other people and their daemons, he also is an open book to Bruce's emotions and will speak Bruce's mind/feelings for him. Midas is tactile and will touch the people they love the most to show affection, to Bruce's great mortification. (Acts different for Brucie, hides his existence as Batman.)

Maevae (Dick's Grey Headed Bushshrike):

energetic, sassy, chatty, vindictive, proud, vain, private, protective (of family),

If anyone's managed to master the art of talking a lot without saying anything it's Maevae. Her and Dick are always at odds and loudly bickering about the little things (clothes, food, music, etc) but they are also playful and affectionate with each other in private.

??? (Jason's Bearded Vulture):

chaotic, whimsy, malicious, mischievous, loud, forceful, tactile, generous, obstinate, mute,

Jason's daemon is not the same post-resurrection and he doesn't know how to deal with it. This leads to it constantly harassing Jason for attention and affection that he refuses to give because he doesn't want to accept it, and it's harassment only alienates them more. He doesn't know it's name and calls it a variety of (rude) nicknames. It will collect and gift things to people, though it's often a 'cat brought a mangled mouse' type deal. They can keep a long (but finite) distance. (Subject to change with character development.)

Hannah (Tim's Cobra/Tarantula):

amoral, enabler, private, sly, pragmatic, manipulative, possessive (of Tim),

These two are always whispering to each other, always discussing their observations, options and opinions. Hannah doesn't speak to anyone but Tim, though she'll make sure you know you're watched and that you overhear exactly what she wants you to. They always touch and are (even for a human+daemon pair) unusual levels of clingy/possessive/protective of another.

For your dc daemons au, I've always imagined Bruce as having a reptilian daemon, though I think your choice makes so much sense.

Also, I wonder if a person in your au gets superpowers does their daemon also get superpowers? i.e. does the Flash's daemon also have superspeed?

I'm looking forward to any art you make next!

I think Bruce has way too much (repressed) love/care for people for him to also have a reptile (since they're largely non-social species') as a daemon on top of that. All that repressed social behaviour's gottta go somewhere, hence the daemon.

These bits about Golden-Handed Tamarin from Wikipedia are what settled it for me:

These tamarins live in cooperative groups of 4 to 15 members with little competition within group even between breeding males. (...) Young tamarins are cared for primarily by the father and turned over to the mother only to nurse, however the entire group helps with the care of the young. Defense is a priority in a group, and when one tamarin is threatened the others will rush to its defense. The golden-handed tamarin is territorial and can be aggressive, with sharp canines and claws instead of fingernails on all fingers and all but the large toe. The golden-handed tamarin is an exceptional climber and spends most of its time among the vines and branches of the trees. It is quick and agile and is a superb jumper known to jump distances of over 60 feet (18 m) from a tree to the ground with no sign of injury.

Idk how it works in HDM canon, but I don't think a daemon and their human should have the same personality/flaws, that'd be boring and you might as well not add the extra characters. Imo they should be complementary, balancing.

Re superpowers, I imagine that daemons always stay equal/keep up with their human's abilities. They are one organism after all! As such, I do imagine that the speedsters have daemons with superspeed/speedforce.

Now please imagine if one of them had a humming bird, a super speed bird with speedforce on top would be nuts, they already look like they're running fast-forward at all times :')

Worked more on the Oilshifter game!

Story wise nothing has been added, but I figured out a bunch of coding stuff!

Split my 'Chaos' system into 'Obedience' and 'Disobedience', and abandoned the word 'Chaos' completely, cause the system doesn't work like Dishonored's chaos and realised that might get super confusing for readers (players???). This took so *so* long (curse you, capitalisation).

Counters that change things depending on if Corvo was more or less (or mixed) obedient are now also a functioning thing!

Also, we now got flavour text on the Chaos/Thoughts footer, that changes depending on if Corvo obeyed or not, without having to make double the objects! I'm very excited (and proud) about that one!

If you want to hear occasional updates about the oilshifter game, this blog @bid-txt is the one to follow, it's my 'writing blog' and only posts very occasionally, 99% oilshifter game for now, I'd guess.

Tonights fruits of my labour, the WIP has doubled in size! (It's maybe 5-10% of the whole thing.)

We've reached the first end (the quickest you can get and entirely derailed from canon), and have completed Campbell mission!

I don't intend to retell all canon missions (boring!!!), and instead want to make them as short as possible. The real fun (and absolute chaos) starts at Rudshore! Then it'll start looking like a bouquet, I swear...

(What, did anyone expect this not to be Corvo & or / Daud???)(Jokes aside, there'll be 1 (or 2?) romancy paths, but this this is still focused on them two. And Thomas. And Emily. :')

@exalok Yep! I'm making an actual "choose your own adventure" fic for my shapeshifter!corvo au, cause i could never settle on one version to write.

And by Choose your own adventure I mean actual one, not 'comment for what happens next'.

Example of page 1. "Check Corvo's pockets" lists the 'Inventory'(currenty:bridle, a reference to kelpies) and clicking on items reveals some flavour text.

The same goes for "Chaos" listing up targets/choices that were made, that have influence on dialogues etc.

The fic text itself is of course just a placeholder/summary, but when it somes to picking choices it's pretty much how I want it to look. More of a 'continue this narrative' than 'controlling corvo'.

This MIGHT get some art when i'm done with it, but this is intended to all be text, which will be hard enough as I have no experience with coding at ALL.

When i'm done it should be playable in any browser, be it mobile or pc.

Common Work Hound:

The most, well, common hound you will find on the isles. They are eager to please and hard workers. As these hounds are easy to train they are suitable for a variety of work, from herding or hunting, over guarding to drawing carts and sledges, they can even be trained to complete complex tasks, or be simply kept as a pet. Their fur comes in various lengths and colours, though the conformation should remain similar to the depicted example. They are generally non-aggressive, friendly, and adjust well to changes in their environment and handlers, a true all-rounder.

Both had been close to him, but where Thomas was most involved in managing the theory and planning of jobs and budgets as Daud’s right hand in the office, Lurk had been the equivalent in the field. Thomas has shown ambition in the way he always strives for perfection, though it’d never rung as strongly as Billies, but then, Billie had never been quiet in anything except her movements.

Had they been close because they had the same plans, albeit in different manners?

Was it because Daud himself held them close and in high esteem?

“What will you do now,” Daud asks him, trying to sound casual.

The Blind Swan

The Blind swan is native to Gristol, but can be found spread across the Isles. It is considered graceful and elegant, despite its aggressively protective nature, sharp beak and talons, or the intimidating size and omnivorous appetite. 

Many nobles and royals have attempted to keep these imposing birds in ponds and lakes on their estates, with varying levels of success, in order to show their support of the Empire and it’s Empress.  

Once adulthood has been reached, the Blind swan will reach a length of 170cm on average, have exclusively white feathers and black skin. Its eyes will now also be fully black and therefore hard to distinguish from the rest of its face, making it appear eyeless. This is also where it derives its name from.

My Abbey headcanons for the Isles: 

The Abbey works with slight variations in each Kingdom (country?) of the Isles, despite them officially all belonging to the same Abbey. 

Gristol’s Abbey is the main seat of power, their devotion is strong but so is their vanity and they are prone to corruption, commonly holding brothers, sisters and the population around them to higher standards than themselves. As they are clustered around the head of the Abbey, most concern themselves more with impressing to rise in the ranks, instead of doing their duty for the sake of the strictures.

Tyvia’s overseers are split between the north- and south-tyvian cultures. 

North-Tyvia, once it’s own country that was conquered by Tyvia shortly before the imperial takeover, is wholly devoted to the Abbey and heretics are nigh impossible to find. Subsequently, the Abbey has a very strong foot-hold, but there is also very little need for violence, disciplinary actions or fear-mongering. 

South-Tyvia’s Abbey is as active and brutal as it is corrupt. Heretics are in abundance and so is the need to take them down. They are very militarised, even more so than those of Gristol, and any suspected heresy of individuals and groups is shot down with zeal unless there is something to be gained from them. 

Morley’s Abbey had tried to separate itself during the times of the insurrection, with limited success. Their overseers are exceedingly disciplined and any kind of corruption or vices are practically unheard of. If found out, or even just suspected, the individual in question will immediately be reported and retrained. Heretics are dealt with in a concise and disciplined manner, their artifacts and skills studied, and then destroyed. Morley has the only overseer masks that are not based on Holger, representing the heretics affliction and suffering instead. 

Serkonos’ Abbey is the least disciplined, but not necessarily corrupt. The rule to cover all skin is a guideline at best, vices are ignored, and while the Abbey tries to stay above the [ Guilds ] and gangs, deals are often made anyway as it is easier than to try and war with the over-competent underworld of  Serkonos that out-numbers them by far.
