What’s going on in the recent Game Changer episode “The Drinking Game”?? (Spoilers ahead)
From the onset of the episode the players and audience are led to believe the game is a social deduction game like Secret Werewolf (since eliminated players don’t vote or contribute in discussion like Blood on the Clocktower). It’s very much in the vein of the former Dropout show Paranoia. But there aren’t any roles aside from the Secret Sober, which limits the ability of the players to perform deduction because they can’t gain definitive evidence. Why is the game constructed with this obvious flaw?
BECAUSE IT ISN’T A SOCIAL DEDUCTION GAME!
It seems like sloppy game design not to have other roles, but it is actually the largest clue. With only very circumstantial evidence available and with the twist that everyone is the secret sober, this episode is a political game and a social experiment. There are no roles to hide behind or to claim or to facilitate deduction. The questions of the game are “When tasked with pretending to be drunk how will these players behave?” and “How do they perform this social behaviour?” Secondly it asks, “With no true information of which to go off and only self-preservation as a motive, how will the players decide who leaves based on what they do know and what they can convince the others?”
Every player has the same selfish motive (win as much cash as possible) while pretending to be cooperative and what occurs is the outcome of that behaviour. It’s a commentary on capitalism. Hell, it’s June, it could be commentary on rainbow capitalism—pretending to support the community while actually pursuing selfish capitalistic aims.

I was genuinely so worried this episode would end with a “I didn’t say Sam Says” but this is SO much better

yes there's nothing i love more than jacob's sincere care towards others and yes lou's AR clothes and second jet ski reveal is insane game changer plays, but vic is hands down the best game changer player of all time for being the one to understand and execute on the true intention of the game, which is to be as maliciously hostile and personally attack sam without a shred of fucking mercy

Something you must remember about Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne is that they spent more than a decade getting locked in Saw traps together and that both of them are intensely and painfully fond and nostalgic about that period of their lives.

so. uh. surprising thing about jason, who might be one of the most inconsistently written characters ever, is the fact that one trait about him has remained constant throughout different eras, reboots and even an elseworld. no, it's not his thighs tho that would be a very good guess.

it's his suicidal ideation. yeah.

[here's me screaming about the fact that he feels like a phantom that has outlived its purpose of haunting in detail if you're interested]

No but I hate seeing young adults beat themselves up for not having it all at a certain age. Like the person with a career will hate themselves for not having a long education, while the person finishing their degree will hate themselves for not also working. And the person in a committed relationship will judge themselves for not also having a big friend group, while the person with lots of friends feels that they're failing because they're single. And in reality no life ever follows a set time line and it's unfair to expect anyone to have it all at once by 20 or 25 or 30 or literally any arbitrary deadline

I cannot stop thinking about Misfits and Magic season two, especially the new magic they created. I so DESPERATELY want to live in the world they created. And then, I realized... I do. Think about it:
Magic is a performance. It inspires and can be so damn FUN.
Magic is material. Change requires sacrifice.
Magic is intentional. What do you want? What is important to you?
Magic is a ritual. It is old- a tradition carried through the ages, but made anew. Like any good ritual, it is strengthened by a community.
Magic is shaped by location. Don't forget where you are. Where you are and where you came from and where you are going next- all give magic power.
Magic takes time. Because anything worth doing is worth doing well. Magic is not some flick of the wrist or fickle nimble working, but an an act that requires care and devotion.
Magic is creative. To create is to change the fabric of the universe irrevocably. It inspires. It can bring joy and sorrow and rage and love. It is a reflection of ourselves.
Magic is every day. Magic can be found all around us. Our relationships and bonds. Commuting to work and making the bed and watering the plants. It both is and is strengthened by the every day.
Magic is the small things. Little doodles and meals cooked and shared and cocoa butter massaged into skin and everything in-between.
Magic is KIND. By god, let magic be kind. Above all else, let it welcome and accept. Let it be a familiar face to comfort and hold you dear. Let it tell you the things you need to hear. Let your magic inspire the world. Let the sacrifices be worth it. Rule your magic, do not let it rule you. Let it beget community, strengthened but not ruled by tradition. Ground it in the here and now. Give it the effort and devotion great acts of magic are deserving of. Create. Create kindness. Make it every day, even if it's just a little thing, because the little things are magic too. Be kind, be kind, be kind.
We don't know how exactly the story ended or how this magic affected the world or what dangers it faced and who tried to destroy it and take advantage of it next. Because storytelling is magic. Kindness is magic. And in our shithole planet, Dimension 20 tells us that we have the power to create change. Everyone has this power, no matter what soggy, crickety old man tries to keep it from us and convince us we are not worthy of kind acts and justice and righting wrongs. We don't know how our story ends, but we get to make it. WE ARE MAGIC.
