Author’s Note: From a prompt by @moonvinyls, and originally written for her too! It’s just a series of drabbles because it pretty much works that way. I’m sorry this is very specific, but even if you’re not Filipino (or don’t understand it) you should be able read this without a lot of difficulty. Will probably do some translation footnotes at the end if this takes off. IF. And comments are absolutely welcome!

I.

“Teach me some Tagalog words,” Ben leans closer to you, whispering in your ear.

You smile as you feel goosebumps all over your body. Since he learned you were bilingual, he has become fascinated with learning the language, often prodding you with quick lessons here and there.

You are more than welcome to oblige. You scoff, “What do you want to learn?”

He smiles, “Y’know, the good stuff.”

You blush; he’s too good at this. “I hate you. Is that a good start?”

His face falls. Your heart hurts, because how can you do that to such an angelic face?

“Fine,” you give in, “the best stuff is ‘I love you’ which is, simply put, ‘mahal kita’.”

“Mah-hul kee-tuh,” is the best he can do, you can tell. “Which word means what?”

“‘Mahal’ is love used as a verb, ‘kita’ is you but used more in the context of ‘from me to you’.”

“I see,” he smiles again. “That sounds beautiful.”

“It is.”

“Mahal kita,” he repeats, still with his thick accent, but you find it cuter more than anything. So you kiss him.
