PALO SANTO & SAGE SMUDGE SPRAY
Palo Santo is a plant that’s traditionally been used to combat negative energy and to cleanse objects and spaces. Oftentimes the wood is burned and the smoke is wafted through the air to clear negativity and bring good luck.
White sage is burned for meditation, smudging and cleansing of spirit and dwelling. In some beliefs, white sage smoke is believed to provide a barrier that prevents negative spirits from entering the room
Lightly spray the area, room or object that you would like to cleanse. You can also lightly spray yourself (always hold the spray from at least a foot away from the body) as well.

Poison-Breaker Oil
Anise extract & seeds: protection, increasing spiritual awareness and heightening psychic gifts, purification
Fennel seeds: the curse-breaker, purifier, healer. Fennel is said to restore lost vision in Longfellow’s poem “Goblet of Life” (“lost vision to restore/new strength, and fearless mood”), which is potent to me as a poetry lover, and according to the Saxon Nine Herbs Charm it’s potent to draw out poison.
A sprig of rosemary from the rosemary I’m growing on my sill: Rosemary is an herb I’m very close to. Throughout my childhood we had a huge bush of it bigger than I was growing by the door. It’s a purifier and a cleanser, a mind clarifier, an enhancer of things remembered, and it lends strength to all mental abilities and endeavors.
Salt: Purifier, protector. Do I need to explain salt?
Avocado oil: I am personally very attuned to water, so it makes a good base. Water is the element of dreams, intuition, and psychic gifts.
Allow to sit in the sun, the blazing eye of dawn, and in the full moon, the lantern of madness and illusion.
I made this oil as preparation for a ritual to rid myself of the last remnants of my tethers to the Christian faith. As a kid, my only friends were home schoolers in the neighborhood, of the “extreme fundie” type–that is, the kind with those godawful edited textbooks and poor grasp of science.
Growing up a voracious fantasy reader I was always very close to nature, I saw and called to and spoke with spirits in a childish way as a matter of course. These types, however, managed to convince me this was demonic; they taught me fear, they got a hold on me as I was desperate to keep my friends. It killed my writing for a long time because they found a story I wrote about vampires and told me writing dark things would get me sent to hell. So I responded by absolute skepticism and blocking off my own sight, the shadows, the friendly trees that gave me good branches to play witch with, everything. Christianity wasn’t plausible to that bastion of logic I hid in, but neither was everything that bound me to my world after.
I’ve overcome that block in my writing, but I’ve never quite overcome it with my spirituality. I’ve never been able to fully commit to my interest in witchcraft or my desire to know spirits without falling back into skepticism and my self defense measures. So this oil was designed with the intent of purifying myself, of breaking the curse and drawing out the poison they left in me. To restore my vision, my strength, my fearless mood.
This is something I’ve been musing for a while. It’s a problem I struggle with, because witchblr on the whole seems to be really…fine with sensing things or trusting in spirits, idk? It doesn’t seem to be a common issue, anyway. And it’s not like most books on the subject cover it either. This block is something I have to solve on my own. Thus, this oil: I don’t know if sharing this recipe will help anyone else, with how specific it is, but I thought it might. Besides, telling my story feels…cleansing, in a way.
@chaliceandsword you may recognize this tale from a recent anon, and I’d like you to know that that reading spoke to something in me I thought I’d walled into a wine cellar years ago. So thanks for that.
