Hey tea how do you cope with the crushing horror and dread over seeing the continuing massive rise in puritanical policing among the youth and young adults over stuff like fiction?
I’ve seen careers destroyed because of this. I’ve been accused of horrible things for daring to suggest that harassing others, especially over fiction, is wrong.
I’ve seen teens celebrate when they successfully suibait people who liked the “wrong” fiction.
I come upon teens and young adults literally daily, who think in that horribly toxic and dangerous way. because they’re so common, especially in art circles.
How do you deal with knowing that, if they knew about your (my) existence they’d try and snub it out with vitriol and glee?
Because I’ve been terrified for years at this point, and the problem is only getting worse
I dunno, man. I guess I just… try to keep things in perspective, I guess?
I don’t know everything, but I know more than I did when I was younger, and when I was younger I said and did a lot of stupid and hurtful stuff that any reasonable person would have been within their rights to kick my ass for.
But they didn’t, and through the kindness and patience of everyone around me I managed to… sort of learn better?
And now, looking back- I regret stuff. But if I hadn’t made those mistakes, I wouldn’t have something to look back on and avoid repeating, right?
And looking back, a lot of it was because I was ignorant, or unhappy, or hurting, or angry. So I try to imagine when I see other people doing hurtful things… that they probably aren’t very happy people either, always seeing the worst in everyone and feeling responsible to do something about it, even though it’s hopeless, and any single person they tear down is just a drop in the bucket.
So like… it’s awful, what they do, and I don’t intend to just roll over and LET them, but I kind of just have to pity them a bit?
And I imagine, you know. That if they had the full picture, and the emotional maturity, and the communication skills, and the compassion, and the perspective to just… leave people they don’t like alone? Probably other things in their lives would benefit from those skills as well.
So it’s kind of sad, thinking about how many other problems they have that are caused by the same hurtful impulses.
And on top of that… social attitudes are like fashion trends, yeah? They swing from one extreme to the other, back and forth forever JUST long enough for the next generation to over-correct the previous one. So it’s not NEW, it’s happened before, it’s just our turn.
Which does suck, I’ll admit, but well. Feeling bad about it won’t fix anything. Better to just take care of people in my little bubble as best I can while I’m here with them. You know?
As long as I’m alive, I’m winning. Right?

Everyone: Please please please don't write your books in Google Docs. Frankly don't use Google Drive for personal stuff.
Their terms of service say they take down stuff like content related to terrorism and trafficking, but this Google Sheet was literally a list of movies I'd watched this year and books I'd read.

the thing that really fucking gets me about the "but the irreversible changes!!" part of the "medically abuse transgender teens just in case" argument is you know damn fucking well nobody gives a shit about irreversible physical changes in children. you've been cutting off part of newborns penises for absolutely no reason, you pierce your 2 year old daughters ears even though she cries and it means nothing to her except pain just because you want to see her wear earrings.
its really about power and control, christian predators wanting to possess and control the bodies and minds of children. "im doing this to your body so i will like it better" "its my body until your 18 i get to humiliate and control you with it however i please because i own you"
nobody cares that not putting obviously trans youth on blockers or HRT in time is also irreversible. transgender men dont need to have top surgery scars. transgender women dont have to have adams apples. thats what really scares them, they dont give a shit about children, they just dont want to lose their targets.

When a child is smart and gets good grades but struggles to socialize, they're often told something like "just wait until you're an adult, you'll be rich and people will like you easily, and those people who don't like you now will be working for you".
This is shitty advice for so many reasons.
They may not actually be as smart as you think. They may just have a special interest that causes them to notice a few extra patterns while they struggle intellectually in other ways. This could put an unreasonable amount of pressure on them, causing them to become burned out.
They may be unknowingly giving people a good reason to not like them, which is very common for autistic people who struggle to understand social rules or who don't realize that what they're doing is wrong because it's exactly what's done to them. If you convince them that everyone who doesn't like them is just jealous of how smart they are, then people will still continue to dislike them just as much as before but now everyone will think they're conceited on top of it.
Their smartness won't necessarily translate into a career. Even someone who's a total genius could easily have skills that are not specific enough to be useful for a career, or can struggle to market those skills in an interview. It's also very hard to get a good paying job without experience. For those who struggle in social situations, that's extremely likely.
It's not reasonable to expect them to just sit back and tolerate being disliked for their entire childhood and however long into adulthood it takes for them to become financially successful. They may decide that it's not worth it and stop trying. They may intentionally start acting dumb because they think people will like them more.
If your prediction comes true, they'll be surrounded by gold diggers who only like them for their money. And if they have a disability that affects their social skills, they won't know when someone is taking advantage of them.
You're promoting the belief that rich people earned their riches and that underpaid employees are experiencing karma.

✅️Vetted by @gazavetters, my number verified on the list is ( #621 )✅️
Today was unlike any other.
We received a few donations and with them, we had our first real meal in over a month. For the first time in so long, we didn’t go to sleep hungry. We cried, not from pain this time, but from overwhelming joy and gratitude.
To everyone who donated, shared, or simply kept us in their thoughts thank you. You didn’t just feed us. You reminded us that we’re not alone. You gave us back a piece of our dignity and hope.
But the struggle isn’t over. We’re still in need of food, support, and a little more light in these hard times.
Please, if you can, continue to help. Every share, every dollar, every act of kindness makes a real difference.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. And please, stay with us on this journey.

Hey instead of just canceling your Paramount plus subscription, put that money you were spending to good use by donating to npr and pbs
Only about $1.60 per tax paying us citizen was being spent on public broadcasting per year.
Donating $1.60 per month would make up for the loss of budget from 12 taxpayers. If you donate your paramount plus subscription of $7.99 you are making up for the money spent on it from 60 tax payers per year!
If you had the 12.99 subscription? You are making up for the loss of budget that would have come from nearly 100 people.
If just ten people do a donation of 12.99 per month, that makes up for the taxes of 900+ people. Imagine if 100 people did monthly donations? And that's JUST if you do 12.99$ a month.
Consider donating.
Hell npr has a special bonus service if you do 8$ a month^^^^
Cancel some subscriptions you don't use and do this instead.

still not over the stephen colbert thing, the way they're punishing him so much by not only essentially firing him but cancelling the show he loves in its entirety, which means also punishing all 200 people who work for and with him on the show.
it is setting an example. it's saying, "this is what happens when you speak truth to power. we will not only punish you. we'll punish the people around you that you've led and loved. is it worth it now, stephen? would it be worth it, other late night talk show hosts? if you don't keep quiet, we will quiet you". the other late night talk show hosts are not all under paramount (iirc, it's just the daily show), but this sets a precedent that tells them they are all vulnerable.
"it's not a big deal" idk man it really seems like it is

Yoooooooo
So the government just defunded PBS and NPR which is fucked. That being said, the public can cover the damage if we orginize and donate.
Only about $1.60 of tax dollars per US citizen per year are spent on the public broadcasting budget. NPR and PBS offer beong able to make small monthly donations, some being 7$ per month or lower if you want.
If you want to donate 1.60$ per month to your local station, you can multiply how much funding they get from you by 12. If you do their monthly donation of $7 per month, your donation can equal the tax dollars of 54 people spent on public broadcasting per year.
If you want to donate to your local station, look them up by your town here to make sure your local stations get helped specifically:
