Deepworld Launches Kickstarter Project to Fund a Mac Beta
When I first met the team working on Deepworld, which is a 2D sandbox-style building game similar to Minecraft at GDC in March, I advised them that the project would be much bigger than they thought. Although they have extensive experience in developing software and servers, running a large game like Deepworld will require a significant investment. They seem to have reached an agreement. i'm only good at one thing The game has led to a Kickstarter project to try and raise some early funds for servers and development.
The group is offering prizes to those who support it which include your own personal servers and worlds, art books and other swag, as well as the possibility of receiving your own items, name or even images in the game itself. The goal is US$20,000, all in all, and as of this writing, the team has raised around $4,000. They intend to make the project a full-time occupation and this money will enable them to do so.
I'm sure I'd like them to be successful. Deepworld is stunning and I was with you when I first was introduced to it. I think that the Mac (and iOS) would greatly benefit from a game like that.
