Kicker
The kicker is one of the most unique positions in football. The kicker doesn’t have to be a big, strong or fast to be a great kicker. The kickers job is to kick the ball through the uprights after their team scores a touchdown and they also have to kick the ball off downfield after they score. If the kicker makes it through the uprights after a touchdown it is called a extra point and their team receivers one point. However, if the offense doesn’t score and they make it far enough down the field the kicker can kick the ball from where the ball was spotted and if he makes it his team is rewarded 3 points. Kickers only go in for a few plays every game but their job is just as important as any other player on the field. A lot of times games are won or lost due to the kicker making or missing an extra point or a field goal.

Defensive line
Defensive lineman are one of the most unappreciated people on the football field. Defensive lineman’s jobs are to get pressure on the quarterback, tackle the running backs, clog up running lanes and many other things to stop their opponents from scoring. There are 3 main positions on the defensive Defensive tackle, Devensive end and nose guard. However, the amount of defensive lineman on the field depends on the formation the defense is in ranging from having 3 down lineman all the way up to 6 in some cases. Defensive lineman are very strong, fast, big and athletic. Some of the best defensive lineman in the NFL currently are Aaron Donald, Nick Bosa, Dextar Lawrence and many more.

Wide receiver
The main purpose of the wide receiver position is to run routes and catch the ball from the quarterback in order to gain yards. Receivers were typically tall, fast, athletic and have good hand eye coordination to catch the ball. There are typically 3 Wide Receivers on the field at one time. Whenever their team is not throwing the ball to the receivers their job typically is to block the defensive backs or make them think that they are throwing the ball. Some of the best wide receiver’s in the NFL right now are Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs and Deandre Hopkins.

Offensive line
The offensive line is considered one of the most important and hardest positions in football due to the physicality and intelligence needed to play. The offensive lines job is to protect their Quarterback on passing plays and open up running lanes for running backs. Offensive lineman are the biggest people on the field and are typically 6’3+ and can weigh over 300 pounds. Lineman also have to be athletic and able to move along with their massive frame. They also have to have good awareness and have to be smart so they can pick up on different blitzes and pressures from the defense. The offensive line consists of 5 positions 1 center, 2 guards and 2 tackles, one on each side of the center. The offensive line position holds a special place in my heart because it’s the position that I have always played and is very important to me.

Running back
Running backs or also known as half backs job is to run the ball to gain yards for their team. Running backs can also go out and catch passes or run/pass block for their quarterback. Good running backs are typically fast, strong, have good vision and have good footwork. Some great running backs in the NFL are Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, Saquan Barkley, and Nick Chubb. One down side of being a running back is they take more hits and tackles on the field than anybody else so they tend to get injured more than other positions on the field.

Football may seem like something that everyone knows about already. However, The United States is one of the only countries that plays it and even many Americans don’t watch football. Also with the percentage of Americans who do watch football many of them don’t know the basic positions and jobs of players. So my job is to help out the many people who want to learn the basics of American football.
Quarterback
The quarter back is one of the most important positions on the football field. The quarterbacks job is to lead the offense down the field by either passing the ball to one of his Wide receivers or handing the ball off to a Running back to gain yards to attempt to score. Generally, in the National Football League the quarterback is the highest paid player on the team due to their importance in having a good football team. Quarterbacks usually are tall and athletic and have a strong arm so they can get the ball to receivers further down the field to gain more yards.
