Introducing The Princess and The Scholar au! Based on the fic I wrote (totally recommend you go read it plsss OvO)

In this au, Quirrel and Hornet meet as teenagers and end up travelling/surviving through Hallownest together. I'd love to potentially do more with this in the future... here are some drawings :p

your AU probably changes a lot of things, a lot of things. monomon's murder can be sped up since Quirrel didn't forget and didn't go beyond Hallownest. we know that he returned to Hallownest because Monomon called him, does this mean that being already in Hallownest he will return the mask to Monomon much earlier than Ghost comes to her. what will be the first meeting with ghost knight then? It is unlikely that Quirrel will think about what this black egg is, because he knows what it is.

if Quirrel and the ghost meet separately from Hornet, why? or will they both fight against the ghost although knowing Quirrel he would not start a fight. (Although Hornet can force him, because you need to choose the best Vessel and fighting two is harder than fighting 1) how many years will pass after the game's plot? Quirrell is VERY old, he lived for centurie as he said. if Hornet and Quirrell are the same age, she is a demigod and she will live longer, right? or will it not be that long before the main character appears?

1. I feel like he wouldn't have much reason to return the mask earlier because like, what's she gonna do with it? Before Ghost comes, there's no way to break the seal as far as he knows, so he might think it's pointless.

For 2. and 3. I've been thinking about the events of the game happening in parallel to canon, but with certain things changed. I'd still place Quirrel at the black egg, and he could be there for a multitude of reasons-- maybe he wanted to pay respects to thk/the dreamers in some way and happened to be in the area, maybe he was curious about the temple cause he'd never spent a lot of time there (I don't imagine Hornet would want to go there very often), maybe he wanted to try and investigate and see if the seals are breakable. He'd still meet Ghost here like in the game, but his dialogue would be a lot different-- In my head, he's a lot more sympathetic towards the vessels in Hornet is, so he'd warn Ghost about his partner who might be hostile towards them and give the player a vague hint of where she's located

And for the boss fights, I actually had a cool idea where you'd still fight the first Hornet fight like usual but then find out after that she's the "partner" Quirrel was talking about (I'm thinking something similar to the Pale Court's Ogrim and Isma fight where they catch each other at the end?) and then the second Hornet fight is actually a fight against both her and Quirrel. Btw if I had a bone of coding skills in my body I would absolutely make this a mod

4. The thing is, as far as I know it's never been confirmed exactly how long it's been since Hallownest fell or how old any of the characters are. I will say that since they met when they were teenagers, Quirrel's the one who's been aged down rather than Hornet being aged up, so make of that what you will. Also, we have no idea how time passes for the bugs or how many years they live normally, which is why if you were to ask me their ages in, say, the fic, then I'd tell you they were "the equivalent of [age]" rather than just "[age]" Point of the story, time in Hollow Knight is really vague and instead of trying to put a specific number on it I'm intentionally leaving it up to interpretation, like the game has.

Thanks for the ask! I've got a lot of ideas of how things would go during the events of the game, maybe I'll write up some alternate dialogue (as if it was a mod or something lol) and post it if anyone's interested...
