If assured that the Queen of the Fairies has a necklace made of broken promises, ask yourself what it looks like. If there is magic, where does it come from? Why isn’t everyone using it? What rules will you have to give it to allow some tension in your story? How does society operate? Where does the food come from? You need to know how your world works. I can’t stress that last point enough. Fantasy works best when you take it seriously (it can also become a lot funnier, but that’s another story). Taking it seriously means that there must be rules. If anything can happen, then there is no real suspense. You are allowed to make pigs fly, but you must take into account the depredations on the local bird life and the need for people in heavily over-flown areas to carry stout umbrellas at all times. Joking aside, that sort of thinking is the motor that has kept the Discworld series moving for twenty-two years.”

Idea: Supernatural beings that have a spell put on them for when they need to deal with humans: it makes them appear like they're wearing a bad costume.

So ghosts turn into a guy in a sheet, werewolves are just a twink wearing a puppy mask, dragons are a kid wearing a pajama hoody with little felt wings.

I don't know where it came from, but several years ago this idea popped into my head unbidden, and for some reason it tickles me. I don't know if it's funny, but I like it and I made it into a zine, I hope you enjoy it.

It lays out really nicely as 3-up spreads on A4 paper, so you can print, staple and fold it, then cut it into 3 zines. It made it really easy to print up 20 of them to trade at this art social thing I went to

I think the reason so many of those right-leaning tech startups and apps and websites keep failing over and over is because the moment you cut yourself off from trans people and furries, you essentially remove like 86% of the world's strongest programming workforce from your selection pool
