I miss The Durrells so much it actually hurts. It was my escape from everyday problems (and those are especially many lately, work and health and life-in-general wise). It doesn’t compare to any other show I know of. Yes, there are many great things to watch out there but none is like The Durrells. The atmosphere, the warm feeling that prevails, the characters, the jokes, everything.
Just wanted to say this, never mind me (or do, as I feel particularly lonely at the moment)

Is Theo the screen character who is closest to the book character, btw?
* loved by all of the Durrells in their different ways (in the books he’s the one name on everyone’s lists for gatherings, testimony both to the diversity of his interests/knowledge and his sweet loveableness) ✔️
* in character both diffident and kindly ✔️
* dapper bewhiskered polymath ✔️
* inescapable and instantaneous seasickness (this is what got me thinking...) ✔️
* intense absorption in all of his special interests ✔️
* playful sense of humour (his excruciating puns and a kind of childlike quality) ✔️
* love of Corfu traditions/culture/dance ✔️
There are differences too. Book Theo is a qualified doctor and radiologist (as real-life Theo was). Book Theo is more awkward and less beguiling in the way he presents, though he’s just as joined-up in social terms as screen Theo.
Dunno. Larry is probably his nearest rival for being closest to the G.Durrell version.

I also suffer from seasickness, in fact.
Oh, Theo!
Theo is perfect in every way!

Regardless of who the leader of the Conservative Party is or what happens with Brexit, the attacks on the working class, disabled, PoC, and most vulnerable in society will continue under a cruel Tory Government.
The country is more divided than ever. The Tories and Blairites fear a Labour Government under Jeremy Corbyn more than they do a rising far-right. Historically the ruling class will always vote to maintain their own interests even in the face of fascism. It’s why Tony Blair said he wouldn’t want to see a left-wing Labour government in power, even in the context of a Tory Government that’s led to the deaths of hundred of thousands of people.
That’s why we need to unite and finally vote the Tories out in a General Election.

It’s no surprise to me that once they left the island, the rest of the world fell for the Durrells, too. Long may that continue.
I like to believe the Durrells’ story will be enjoyed for many years to come, so that their extraordinary Corfu adventure lives on and on.

I like how when Theo says this to Gerry, it goes for The Durrells too. The Durrell Conservation Trust has been fully onside with this series.
They went out of their way to get back to the beginning, didn’t they, costume-wise? Gerry in wellies, Theo in the hat and hankie
PS I don’t know if anyone can help with this question. You know in ep 1 when Louisa threw a clod of earth or whatever into that group of rodents (‘good luck’), were they dormice? Such good symbolism both for Gerry’s conservation and for the family dynamic early on, if so

I’m trying to see it as setting them all free, but it feels more like losing a lot of friends.
You’ve passed your enthusiasm on to so many people. It’s been a huge celebration of animal life!

Regardless of who leads the Conservative Party and whatever happens with Brexit, the Tories will continue their decimation of the lives of the most vulnerable in society. Let’s be very clear about that.
We need a general election now and to get the Tories out.

I noticed the ‘hurray!!!’ too! So charming
Do we know what kind of a role he is playing in Bulletproof? Confess I’ve never seen it so googled to see what it was. Good guy or villain?
Tumblr media
Oh yes!!!!!! He’s in Bulletproof! Looking stunning ❤️
Also is it me or has he picked up Theo’s “hurray”? Damn!

Caring for an orphaned family — almost the role Theo fulfilled with Gerry. Only almost, thank goodness! but Theo stepped into the place a father would have so simply and kindly.
For the actors there must be so much nostalgia. Apart from the four years of friendships, and the human stories they’re telling, there’s the rare privilege of handling baby owls, otters and all the rest of the feathered, furry, scaly gang.
Haha! I love the new page title

One of the most moving scenes with these two.
I changed the page title to honour the lovely portrayal of this character (yes, nostalgia is already kicking in)
