A short stop at a Café on a stormy dark night leads to unexpected meetings and more unexpected interests.
Aaron Hotchner x oc
It was a dark, stormy night, and nobody was outside except a tall, dark figure. Upon closer inspection, it seems the figure was a man wearing a suit. It was strange because he had nothing to protect him from the storm. Not a coat or umbrella, not even seeming to be in a rush or anything.
Aaron Hotchner, freshly off work, was heading nowhere in particular. Walking down the street, you could see many different shops.
"I'm growing tired by the minute," he thinks to himself.
Almost falling asleep, Aaron sees a nice warm shop. Shivering, he walks, almost sprints to the shop, a coffee shop. As he gets to the entrance, his hand grabs the handle, opening the door. He steps in, instantly much warmer than before. Aaron Hotchner casually walks up to the shop counter, preparing to order a nice hot cup of coffee.
"Hello, can I just have a cup of coffee? Black, please?" He asks the barista.
The short brunette woman taking his order smiles and says, " Yes, of course, but if you wanted something just a little sweeter and delightful, you should try adding a spoonful of caramel, it is just to die for."
Aaron, feeling a little spontaneous, says, " You know what? Sure, it's always good to try new things."
Both the man and the woman smile before turning and going their separate ways after he pays a small price of $2.25, her to the café kitchen and him to a small table by a window. As Aaron thinks to himself, he can't help but let his mind wander to work.
There was nothing particularly different about today. He woke up, drove to work, said hello to everyone, walked to his office, and did paperwork. There was no case or unsub of speaking of this specific day. Oddly enough, he felt more unnerved than if there were.
Aaron is shaken from his thoughts. He peered to his left and saw the barista setting his coffee down on the small café table.
"Thank you, sorry I didn't see you there." He says apologetically.
She appears unfazed, " Of course, no problem, sir. I hope you enjoy your coffee, I know I do every morning." She says as she walks away.
Once again, by himself, he drank a small sip of his dark coffee. The woman was right. His coffee was just slightly sweeter, and it was to die for. After he finishes the coffee and prepares to walk out, stopping short, he turns towards the woman, hoping to get her name.
" Thank you for suggesting the Carmel. It was a nice compliment to the bitter coffee, I was wondering if perhaps I could know your name?"
The brunette woman is now smiling, holding her book, saying not loudly but sternly, " Yes, of course, you seem like the kind of guy to like bitter but sweet things. My name is Cassandra, but you can call me Cassie. "
Aaron smiles almost more just hearing her name. He says in a similar tone, "My name is Aaron, I hope to come by again soon and see you."
Both say their goodbyes, knowing they're not forever goodbyes. He walks out of the small café feeling light on his feet, even warm as he walks out in the pouring rain, not feeling the freezing touch he was expecting.

The color green.
There was nothing particularly different about it, not compared to so more riveting colors. It was the color of leaves on the finest flowers. the color to the prettiest emerald gemstones, the color of her eyes ……. Cassie. He never felt so captivated before. It was odd. Almost like someone took over his body, he has never felt more alive, and he welcomed the feeling whole heatedly.
This was insane there was no reason he should be feeling like this, especially right now, they just got off another case, sitting on the jet just awaiting its landing. Suddenly he couldn't help but anticipate it. Knowing again he shouldn't think about her. Even though he just wanted to see her, he knows he shouldn't, especially because she's so young. So full of potential yet the longing was so horrifically there, so painstakingly there.
The more he thought about it the less it seemed so bad, maybe he should give in, maybe just one more visit, would it be so bad?

The café was once again silent, today was sunny so bright the sun was beaming through the glass of the windows that took up the majority of the cafe, even so with the sunlight it felt just as cozy as any other day. Just peeking over the counter near the register was curly brunette hair seemingly leading to a young woman with olive skin. She was wearing a simple light green linen summer dress, upon closer inspection you could see little embroidered daisies on the hem line.
Cassie was propped on a small stool just behind the café counter. She was reading her college biology book, having exams soon was no joke, she was so focused on studying that she didn't seem to notice the bell chine signaling that someone just walked in. Not even when said person walked right up to the counter.
she looked up at the person when they spoke a simple hello. When realizing who it was she was feeling fuzzy. It was the nice man from a few weeks ago. The man who was consuming her every thought. The man standing right before her, who happened to be feeling the same things she was feeling since the very day they met.
Now standing face to face, she smiles, he feels as though that smile was reserved just for him. Not having even spoken any words at all he already felt complete. She sets her text book off to the side, out of the way. Unknowingly bringing his attention to the book.
“Do you go to University?” Aaron knew she was younger than him, but didn't realize just how much.
“Yes I do, I study biology” Smiling once again she then says, “What can I get for you today? Another coffee or something colder for this sunny day?”
“Black coffee just like before please”, as he says this he notices just how empty the café is other than them of course.
“Caramel? ” she asked just like last time.
“Yes please” instead of separating like last time they continue to talk at the counter.
“I noticed that you're always in a suit, what do you do as a job?”
“I'm in the fbi” he was shocked that he felt so comfortable just saying that so openly, typically he just lied or changed the subject, but he realizes that he's just that comfortable to be that open.
She doesn't say anything right away, he almost gets nervous but just as he was about to say something else to her, she turns with a bright expression on her face.
“FBI? My best friend works with the FBI! what a small world, i wonder if you know him?”
“I'm not sure if I would for sure, I work with a small group of people.” because what would be the chances he would know them? one in a million, he was sure.
“Spencer Reed"
Now he was really shocked like what the fuck are the chances of this shit. “So it happens that I do know Spencer, personally actually. How do you know Spencer, I didnt realise he had any friends around here” not in a mean way or anything, he again was just mildly shocked.
“ Spence and I go way back, we're childhood friends, we lived in the same neighborhood all of our lives, even now we live in the same apartment complex. Actually now that I think about it, is your last name hotchner? I think Spence has mentioned you before.” she was definitely going to mention this to Spencer later when they went book shopping.
“Yes my full name is Aaron Hotchner, I can't believe we haven't met sooner, with this connection to Spencer" he says this as he gets handed his coffee.
“It is a little crazy we haven't met, maybe we'll see more of each other? ” she says this feeling hopeful, hopeful for more things. Between them.
“Yes of course I would love to see more of you, but with that being said I have to leave to go get my son from school” he says apologetically, feeling sad for leaving her presence but happy to see his son after a couple of days, he gets ready to leave. But knowing he will see her again if not at the cafe, definitely with Spencer at some point, maybe at Rossi's next dinner party?
“Of course hopefully I'll see you sooner than later, I hope you have a good rest of your day Aaron.” she waves bye to him with a smile that doesn't seem to leave her face. As he leaves the door closed behind him once again by herself.
Now humming to herself, she picks up her textbook once again and plops back on her stool and continues to study, awaiting for any more customers that may come that day. Even in that moment she can't help but feel happy about seeing Aaron again.
