The Judo-Flip

Anon Ask: What are your views on the judo-flip in MoA?

Now HERE is a controversy.

My opinion? It was completely fine. A little unexpected, aggressive and excessive, but completely fine.

And I know what some of you are thinking - How is it fine? It’s aggressive, and because it’s aggressive, it has to be toxic. This only goes to prove that Percabeth is abusive and-

Seriously, people. You don’t have to ship them, but take a step back.

First off, Percy and Annabeth trained together and existed at a high-intensity camp for years. Years. They know each other’s training styles, and I am downright confident they have both been judo-flipped or judo-flipped someone else plenty of times, especially each other. It’s not anything new - for either of them.

Furthermore, he wouldn’t have felt any pain. According to many who practice Judo and an official site, “…Judo should not hurt. A well-thought out Judo session is measured and done carefully. Judokas, whether their body type is light or heavy, should not get hurt during practice.” That is not to say it cannot hurt if done improperly, but if done correctly, the “pain level” is kept to a minimum.

Now, I know your immediate retort, probably something along the lines of But she isn’t trained in Judo or that It wasn’t practice, it was real life!

First off, she, at some point, would have learned to do it correctly. Annabeth is a perfectionist of sorts. She wouldn’t have done the Judo flip sloppily, and she would have learned to do it before actually doing it. Especially considering how much time she spent at camp, she definitely would know how to avoid causing harm to her opponent. The purpose of a judo-flip is not to harm an individual, a goal Annabeth would keep crystal clear in her mind.

And so what it wasn’t “practice”? They are demigods. Percy didn’t seem to mind. At all, actually. He was completely unfazed after any initial confusion. If he doesn’t care, why the hell do you?

Thirdly, if you still aren’t convinced, she still thought he was invincible. There was no possible way she knew his invincibility had been washed away, and so of course she didn’t hesitate! It wouldn’t hurt in the first place, and with his invincibility on top, there would be virtually no affect to him. And considering he wasn’t injured during the flip, I think you all need to breathe for a moment. Thinking he was invincible or not, Annabeth never would have done something to harm him like that. I know half of you reading this are protesting angrily and providing a bunch of “reasons” for her so-called abusive behavior right about now, but that is a conversation for another time.

And for those who think it’s rude and therefore an example of abuse and toxicity and - bruh. It’s not nice of her, and yeah, maybe she didn’t need to do it, but stop making it more than it is.

And sure, maybe it was unorthodox and unexpected for her to take that course of action, but give the girl a break. And stop using it as a reasoning for Percabeth’s so-called “toxicity” - toxicity that you’re searching for, and toxicity that isn’t there.
