I've seen occassional discussion on Astrotrain being OOC in The God Gambit, but imo when you really step back and look at how he is consistently treated in G1 it really makes his actions make sense. He is bullied all the time by the seekers in particular - this even includes Thundercracker, who is generally considered the most passive.

I personally don't fully believe in the 'Astrotrain was supposed to be Megatron' rumors because I haven't seen much evidence of it compared to things like Blitzwing originally being in the place of Octane for Starscream's Ghost. But even then, if the rumor is true I think that it still makes sense for Astrotrain to be in this role. It's an interesting case of 'I can finally do what I want' and the power getting to his head. And the fact that it's consistently the seekers that have ridiculed him makes his animosity towards Starscream & Thrust make all the more sense.

Astrotrain doesn't seem interested in bigger things, the way he acts shows to me that he just wanted to control this one planet. He didn't care about universal takeover, just wanting one slice of the pie. A little piece where he can exist in a bubble undisturbed. He desperately wanted to hold on to that power, because power is what makes you stand over others. He didn't want to lose that and become the Decepticons' taxi cab again.

And it gets even worse in season 3. Astrotrain is damaged, critically low on energy, he can't even transform properly and all he wanted was just one energon cube. But the Constructicons didn't care, they literally combine into Devastator (while not even having the energy to effectively do so) to kick the defenseless Astrotrain away from their energon. Obviously, times are tough for the 'cons right now, but Astrotrain did all that work to bring back energon for them! It's so fucking sad!

The dehumanization and lack of body autonomy of shuttles throughout the Transformers franchise needs to be studied.

( Basically I was talking with some friends then I just read about Dreadrock on the tfwiki and now everything is something I cannot unseen. This accounts for the original G1 Sunbow series and 1985 Transformers Movie too. )

HI HI HI!!!! YES i love and adore bluestreak so much...he has a lot of potential that i feel is always ignored and it makes me sad. i think about him so much it might be a problem. i intensely love the datsun trio in GENERAL tbh (prowl is my other big favorite and shares with bluestreak, smokescreen was a more recent blorbo development but he's climbing his way up)

ok ok so i'm gonna just share some headcanons for him for fun. i don't really have these properly written down so forgive me if they're structured weirdly lol

because i'm a silly jazzprowl shipper, i very strongly hc that bluestreak is their sparkling. i'm very delusional about it lol, pointing at every little crumb ever like "THAT'S THEIR BOYYYYY"

bluestreak didn't look much like...well, our bluestreak when he was young. i like to think he looked more like jazz (i have a doodle of this somewhere...)

as tensions were rising and jazzprowl became busier, they grew concerned for blue's safety/wellbeing, so they had him stay in praxus with close friends who become foster creators to blue. things were okay until...yeah. well.

blue's body was severely damaged in the attack, and medics were forced to transplant his spark into a new frame based on his sire coding. this was a dangerous procedure and bluestreak was way too young to be upgraded to an adult frame, but it ended up working. now he looks like our blue! haha...

no one knows how young bluestreak actually was when he ended up in the middle of this war. so he had to catch up fast, or be left in the dust. i think this manifested a perfectionism in him, he's so very hard on himself and even after he's considered the autobot's best marksman, he still searches for ways to improve. this would lead to him getting experimental mods installed—advanced targetting systems, split doorwings (this isn't normal to have in my hc, and impractical for everything but it's purpose of improving accuracy), anything that can give him an edge. suppose you could look at it as cheating, but he already had a talent as a sniper beforehand. sunshine boy who will modify his body to be able to kill you better. what does this say about how he views his own body?? hah...

i imagine he was once approached by the wreckers with an invitation to join them (i like to think it was sandstorm specifically, with their similar history of losing their homes), but he declined due to his personal aversion to the battlefield

i like that bluestreak had a commanding position in idw at one point and i wanna imagine him being the commander of a small unit of snipers during the war on cybertron...
