Donnie helped Mikey up the last of the steps, the youngest dazed and exhausted.

Was he the youngest now? Caseys age was still an unknown, though the human had a scraggly and scruffy few hairs on his chin. Donnie also did not know how human boys aged, so, still an unknown.

Donnie tried not took at the ship that floated above them as it shot lazers and beams of light, the missiles from the USA military doing nothing but exploding in midair.

A damned light show. That’s what they where getting right now.

From a ship Donnie desperately wanted to take apart and see how it ticked, but would most likely never get to do so.

Watching the world fall apart.

He knew there where fires raging around him, a chunk of road was sitting atop the building next to them.

The streets still glowed with the power of the ship.

The sky was red, just like every disaster and zombie move thought it would.

And his family had failed to save it.

“Waht do we do know?” Mikeys voice was quiet, scared and far, far to quiet.

Not a speck of his normal pazaus, not a hint of his endless energy or even the anger of his flames.

Just scared.

Clinging to Donnie like the little kid he was.

Papas voice was heavy with such weight Donnie could feel it when he spoke.

“I fear we are lost. The Krang are too powerful.”

Donnie heard his baby brother close as Leo fell to his knees.

His red shell matched all to well with the night sky, and should his tail not have been over concert Donnie might have lost it in said sky.

“Maybe was can change the future some other way!” Mikey tried, voice picking up just a bit.

Donnie bit his lip, looking away.

Everything he knew told him it was pointless. If they somehow did, their world would be ripped apart, undone by paradoxes.

Casey was the one to speak next.

“Its time to face facts.” His voice was heavy distorted by his mask.

Donnie could hear the hiss of steam as the mask lifted. That poor thing hadn’t had the proper touchups if it was hissing.

“We can’t change the future.”

“Says who!” Mikey cried, braking away from DOnnie.

Donnie hugged himself.

They did have to face the facts.

“Says the Grandfather paradox, says the physical determinism, says the fucking space time continuum!” He counted off on each finger.

He ignored how he could see Mikey’s face break down next to him.

He finally turned to Mieky, heart braking at the sight of Mieky face.

Lower lip wobbling, eyebrows pinched and eyes full of tears. That was nothing on the way his ears where layer back just like papas, or how his hair flipped about in the wind of the fights around them.

“Look, I dint want it to be true.. But..” Donnie looked away, it all too much.

His favorite thing in the world had betrayed him.

“Science.”

Leo of course, had to shatter the world view Donnie had held since he was seven in the next few moments.

“That’s IT!”

Donnie glared.

“Donnies, wrong!”

Donnie hissed, glaring at his twin.

This was one of the very few things that was being proven right. In front of their own eyes and despite every action they had taken.

“”The world is ending, and yet the barbs continue.” Donnie hissed, feeling his claws slip out.

He held onto his own arms, claws digging into his scales.

“Don’t you remember?” Leo hopped off the edge of the roof. “We already did change the future.”

Donnie blinked. Sure Casey was here, but he hardly counted if the Krang had won anyway.

Leo turned to Casey. “Raph never got kidnapped and turned into a Krang-zombie in your time, right Casey?”

Casey shook his head as Leo pointed at him.

“No, she didn’t.”

“That means we did change the future!” Leo turned to the rest of them.

Donnie glared, but his ben was already working to prove his dumb-dumb of a twin right.

Raph was a valuable asset to the Krang, and if that had dent happened in Casey’s timeline, then it meant that the something had changed. Casey was here. They had known before hand.

“We’re just in a different, uh,” Leo fumbled, hand falling and mouth making not words.

“Bifurcated time branch?” Donnie finally supplied, not rally in the mood to take amusement from his bothers lack of knolage.

“Yes, yes yes, that nerd thing!” Leo pointed at Donnie and he scoffed. “You know what that means, right?”

Leo let them simmer for only a moment, DOnnie raising an eyebrow.

Leo marched on. “That means we still have hope!”

And damn it Leo for saying that with the aura of light from the ships latest cannon fire behind his head.

“A ninjas greatest weapon.” Casey muttered, sounding vaguely like he was quoting someone.

Leo laughed. “Ay I like that!”

Donnie watched the split second Leo decided to drop the act, his face becoming the serous one Raph always woe on missions.

“Look, I know me acting like I have all the answers is how we got here. And I’m done doing that. I don’t know how to beat the Krang, but,” Leos eyes scared all of them. “I do know our future is written until we write is. As a team.”

“So,” Leos face turned playful again, a smile on his face despite the hardness of his eyes. “What do we got?”

a human au is cool, but what about a human au where the hamatos and april are actually in japan, living a normal school life, and struggling with their own problems? no, please don’t call me out and say that it’s anime okay… i just thought itd be cool if they were living normal lives for once 💔💔
