it might be midnight, but itās difficult to have any fear or self-preservation when the monster in the dark is her. this leaves mirana alone on the creaky swings at the local park, finding some sense of calm in the nostalgic act. her plan is still terribly not thought out, as she shouldnāt be back at her apartment for at least an hour and her leather jacket is no match for the alaska wind, she realizes as she makes a sad attempt to tuck her hands into her sleeves.Ā her eyes are on the night sky, attempting to locate the little dipper as she hears someone else approach. whether theyāre approaching her on purpose, or they donāt notice her, she doesnāt bother to glance in their direction.Ā āis it ever not this fucking cold in this town ? how am i supposed to stargaze in these conditions ? ā
Ā Ā Ā HANDS JAMMED INTOĀ his pockets, scarf wrapped tight around his neck and mouth, he made his way home. a late evening for him, but ira always preferred to work late over the potential of being pushed into an awkward social situation heād have less than zero interest in. it was the duality of a man who preferred to have a cold beer after a long shift, but didnāt want to deal with the bar stool chitchat that came with it ... so he stayed late. the overtime would be nice, anyway. head in the clouds ---among the stars the stranger complained about not having ideal conditions to peer at, her voice startled him just enough to warm the tips of his fingers with a rapid heart-rate climb. before he could think he snorted,Ā ā itās alaska. hell froze over, and this is it. ā a pause,Ā ā telescope from your window, maybe. ā

{michiel huisman; cis man; he/his} hey isnāt that IRA EVANS? the 37 / 50 year old DHAMPIR with the ability of CLAIRVOYANCE and a song that plays when you see them is BODY / PRISON by HEALTH & PERTURBATOR. They are known to be PLEASANT and ALOOF. They have been in VALDEZ for 25 YEARS and always remind me of the faint scent of formaldehyde even after a long hot shower, the "lumberjack" aesthetic in real life; plaid shirts and work boots when in leisure time, the desperate want for privacy and to be left alone despite how echoing and painful loneliness really is, & that feeling after a fresh rain where fog hangs low and the earth smells like petrichor. what secrets will they discover?
triggers for implied abuse
stats.
name: ira evans. age/dob: 37 (50) / october 2. occupation: mortician. sexuality: demiromantic heterosexual. nationality: dutch-american. languages spoken: english, dutch, conversational spanish. hair color: dark brown. eye color: hazel, favoring greys and greens. height: 6ā²0ā³. build: athletic - lean muscle. character comparisons:Ā kakashi hatake (naruto), marty byrde (ozark), dexter morgan (dexter), ben hargreeves (the umbrella academy), will graham (hannibal), margo dunne (gone girl), viktor (arcane), lucius fox (gotham), lester freamon (the wire), amy antsler (booksmart).
bio.
a chicago native. ira is the son of a detective (vampire) and a veterinarian (human, unaware), and the eldest child out of two. he took the first opportunity he could to hightail it out of the city when it presented itself āthat came in the form of his parents divorcing when he was 13.
his younger brother stayed with their father in chicago while ira went and lived with his mother and step-father in maine. it was a sleepy change, and a nice pace away from consistently turning on the tv and hearing about the crime rate ⦠or hearing it at the dinner table with his father talking about his case load.
perhaps ira began to flourish more without the consistent presence of his father: less time keeping his hobbies and interests to himself in lieu of feeling pressured to conform to his fatherās wants and desires, more time to discover his own avenues of self ⦠he was always a bit of an odd boy but kept it so tightly under his thumb that he didnāt quite feel as if he had his own personality until he was away from home.
attending mortuary school was not a thought during his childhood, at all. initially his interests lay with forensic science but he was turned off from the idea of involving himself with crime with his father around. the first 13 years of his life seemed to tip the scales drastically in favor of what heād do with his future more than the time away - the damage had been done.
always an observant individual (unaware that it had anything to do with his innate clairvoyance), ira learned how to apply that into some form of charm or charisma as he got older. people were easier to talk to, to get to leave him alone if he added a nice smile ⦠if he said a few nice things to butter them up along the way out the door.
his preference for the mortuary sciences (or rather, working with the recently deceased) comes from the same place his initial interest in forensic science came from ā he prefers the company of the dead. theyāre quiet and non-judgmental. he can work at his own pace (within reason) and essentially be left alone to do so. while thereās less discovery with this avenue, and while part of the appeal of forensic science was helping with cases, ira at least takes solace in knowing that he provides a measure of peace to the grieving families. heās alright with that.
moved to valdez to get away from literally everything ---and to get away from himself. he realized in his late teens that somethingĀ was off with him, but he never figured out what. now that heās 50, heās still wholly unaware of whatĀ he is, and heās too stubborn to ask (who would he ask?) at this rate. he just lies about his age when people inquire, not that itās too hard to believe that heās 37. heās wondering when the residents of valdez will start to notice that heās looked the same for the past 25 years ... though heās mostly gotten away with just growing or cutting his hair and facial hair to give the appearances of ageing.
you can find him at work pretty much always. heās taken to throwing himself into his business to settle out with having to deal with the emotions of self-loathing. itās an added bonus that heās actually quite talented at the mortuary sciences.
fun small facts.
very good with his hands, be it fixing things or making them or tinkering in general. he prefers to do most housework himself. sink broken? he can fix it in an afternoon. wall need sheetrocking? he can do it. car need fixing? heāll do that, too. it comes with being a self-appointed loner, honestly.
lived in vermont before running off to valdez. he plans on going back home as soon, but heās said that for 25 years.
was in a relatively serious relationship with a woman heād met through work for about five years. they lived together, and heād planned on proposing to her, but it didnāt quite work out. they barely spoke thereafter, but were mostly amicable when they did. since then heās been more of a one night stand kind of man, with little interest in opening himself up again. (he realized that he couldnāt explain what he was to her, considering he didnāt know. so he ended the relationship).
cat person. heās adopted many since living in valdez. currently he has a little black cat named nyx.
wears glasses when heās home, otherwise always has contacts in. you wonāt ever see him with his glasses on unless you drop in unexpectedly on him.
he plays piano, and favors jazz. he picked it up in middle school and has stuck with it ever since. itās one of his favorite hobbies.
