James rolled his eyes, fighting back the smile as the other knocked. Peeling himself off the couch, the pathologist opened the door, leaning against the frame. “I went to med school, and I’m still more of a cop than you.” He moved out of the way so the younger man could enter, closing he door behind. Eyes raked over his fancy outfit, himself clad only in a pair of cuffed pajama pants, olive in color. Hands slipped into his own pockets as he leaned back against the counter. “A little fancy for a 10 o’clock text message. I gotta say, there’s no need to dress up for me,” he teased. 

“A little worn out from work this week.” Or a lot. The only person who truly saw how much the fire had effected him was Oliver. “Are you saying I’m too old to go out?” He flicked the other man’s shoulder. “And yet you still chose to come here instead. Remember that, kiddo.”

Javier scoffed at James’ words, feigning offense, a playful smirk on his lips, “What are you talking about? I could totally be a cop, I’d make a fuckin’ sexy ass cop.” He took in James’ appearance, it was almost a talent how the man could look so effortlessly attractive even in pajama pants. He eyed him, taking the pajamas off of him with his eyes, biting his lip softly. Javier hoped he would be able to get him out of those later. 

“You know I like to dress up, man,” he answered, gesturing at his outfit, his arms flexing with the movement. “’Sides, you saying you don’t like the view? You and I both know I’ve dressed up for you countless times in the past, usually it’s less fabric than this, but,” he punctuated the sentence with a shrug of his shoulders and a laugh. 

He nodded at him, studying his face, “Yea, things have been pretty busy and hectic, huh?” Javier placed a hand on James’ shoulder and squeezed affectionately, “You’ve gotta find some time to relax and get your mind off things, hopefully I’ll be able to help with that tonight, because I’m a great fuckin’ time.” 

The flick to his shoulder made him laugh heartily, Javier liked to poke fun at him for being the older of the two, but this time that hadn’t been his intention. He was long overdue for an age joke. “Wouldn’t want you to bust a hip on the dance floor,” he retorted, “I’d rather you do that with me, in much more fun ways.”

James knew he shouldn’t have texted him. It had been a long week, and honestly, this is the last thing he needed. The break up seemed just as fresh in the timeline as when it started. The 15 year age gap was something he never considered a real part of their downfall. It was strange. Meeting in nothing short of an average way, on an app in this new aged dating system work up. James wasn’t used to it, wasn’t a huge fan of it, and yet, he found himself moving in on Javier. It was crazy to think they had an entire generational gap between them. When they broke up, he wasn’t exactly hurt. The idea of bringing Javier home to meet his family was terrifying, and the idea of being with someone who wasn’t out to his own family was just as equal. 

Still, he picked up his phone and texted the other to see if he wanted to come over for some quality time alone. In other words, he didn’t care whether they cuddled, messed around, or watched a movie and ate popcorn. He just did not want to be home alone. @bomberojimenez​

Most of Javier’s relationships ended poorly, his track record was not the best, to say the least. Usually the blame was entirely his own, he always found himself doing something to cause his relationships to come to a crashing halt, intentionally or not. His relationship with James was different though, it wasn’t something he had searched for, but fell into very naturally, he found himself drawn to the older man, ignoring all of the anxieties that crept up whenever he thought of the future. 

The fear won in the end though, and Javier found himself bringing another relationship to an end. Unlike with his other exes though, he was able to keep an actual friendship with James, a friendship that on occasion had its benefits. He was getting ready to hit the clubs when he saw a text from James light up his phone. He picked it up and answered quickly with a string of emojis, followed by an actual confirmation. Javier didn’t care about missing out on the bars and clubs for the night, he enjoyed spending time with James, and he could probably fool around with him a little. 

He was dressed in a tight black shirt and ripped jeans, his hair slicked back, Javier was dressed more for the clubs than for a night in, but he didn’t feel like changing. He picked up some snacks and booze and made his way to James’ place, the streets all so familiar to him as he drove. 

Finally he made it, and walked over to his door, knocking loudly. “Oye! Policia! Abre!” Javier called out in Spanish, a small chuckle bubbling in his chest, “Just kidding, it’s just your favorite firefighter, now open up. I think I’m annoying your neighbors.” 

Once he was let in, he moved in to greet James, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, “Hey, papi, how are you? I almost asked if you wanted to go out with me, but staying in is probably the better option.”
