im usually not the type to get into any sort of politics on my blog or in general but i just wanted to say something real quick about the ai-generated indycar image that the department of homeland security posted — the one with the “ice” livery and the number 5 on the car.

i am sick to my stomach to say the least.

first of all, pairing a fake indycar with immigration and customs enforcement branding is already weird and disturbing enough, but to then use number 5 — which belongs to pato, a mexican driver — is intentionally provocative. AND IT IS INCREDIBLY FUCKED.

indycar (and motorsport in general) should never be used as propaganda. full stop. and it definitely shouldn’t be used to clean up the image of an agency known for causing real harm to immigrant communities — especially not by dragging a mexican driver into it without his consent. (and i am not blind. ive been to many many indycar races, ik the type of ppl that attend and what they stand for and support)

what’s happening in the u.s. right now is insane. people are losing basic rights, communities are being targeted, and the government thinks it’s the right time to play games and to use ai to generate fake race cars to promote harmful institutions? FUCK THAT.

i’m tired. tired of the system that hurt people. motorsport has always been a place of passion, talent, and unity across borders — but this? this was a slap in the face. it’s not just a “bad look,” it’s cruel.

using a mexican driver’s number to promote an agency that tears mexican families apart? it’s not just disrespectful — it’s dehumanizing. i can’t even begin to imagine how pato will feel seeing that. and if you think this isn’t intentional, you’re not paying attention. everything about it was calculated, whether they admit it or not.
