It's been said before but I will always maintain that kingdom hearts is peak because it spends two games building up the villains as a powerful group of mysterious, unfeeling humanoids who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, only to reveal one game later that they're actually all coworkers who live together in a hype house, hate their boss, and have sitcom-level interpersonal drama

What truly makes the Ienzo character file so great is that a lot of the other stuff that makes him fucked up came from changes in plans, coincidence, and a bunch of little solitary things you’d have to piece together yourself, but the character file is like they sat down and went “yes look at how many things are wrong with this man”

“Memory of Childhood”

I think a lot about memories. I don’t really remember anything from my childhood.

But I remember being 8 years old in Radiant Garden very vividly!

I have two dads: the strict one and the nice one

The strict one, Even, looked after me more often because my other dad was busy with lord stuff.

He would search for me whenever I ran off into the gardens. Which was often. And then he would yell at me for it. That’s how I know he cares!

He was very strict about studying and called me a daft idiot whenever I messed up my easy work. This is why Master Ansem was the nice one

We got ice cream together!

Though in hindsight I think sometimes he was getting ice cream for himself and using me as an excuse rather than actually getting ice cream because I wanted it…

Even thought Master Ansem spoiled me too much :P

I love my memories of Radiant Garden which is why when my colleagues told me that Master Ansem had betrayed me, I believed it and helped do away with him!

Turns out they were lying.

So now I’m on God’s green Earth purely for atonement ❤️

Subject X, about Ienzo

There's a lot in this one. Presuming Subject X is Skuld, there's the dramatic irony of her having forgotten that she did witness the end of the world. There's also the connection between stars and meteors- meteors are often called shooting stars, which you would of course make a wish on, but as we know, they spell imminent destruction for a world when they appear.

On top of that, there's something about young Ienzo having a gaze that stares to the depths of one's soul- is it Skuld's past reflected in his eyes back at her? Or is it a prophecy of the future of the Garden? Eye contact raised more questions about who he is and why he's here than it answered.

And then there is also a touch of the Victorian Orphan theory. That adds another layer, that perhaps his story is not too different from Skuld's

One very miniscule thing i always get hung up on in KH discussion is whenever i hear it mentioned that Ienzo 'convinced' the rest of Ansem's apprentices to build the secret human experimentation basement and then when people act like that means he's just as culpable for the fall of Radiant Garden as everyone else- the guy was probably like 12 fucking years old at most. Maybe he came up with the idea but kids at that age can be so fucked up and incorrect. When I was at that age i thought fumbling a social interaction was punishable by death, the blame is entirely on the grown-ass adults who heard their weird traumatized baby child say "we should torture people for science" and then just went yeah sure sounds good

The way Ienzo has been raised is so twistedly hilarious to me like. Like okay guy called Ansem the Wise adopts this tiny child whose parents have died horribly, possibly to the point of traumatizing him so bad he's become nonverbal. But the thing is Ansem the Wise is like a king, he's got king stuff to do, so he can't really watch this kid all day. Which is fine, fair enough, it takes a village, except then instead of getting like. a nanny. Which you assume he'd be able to do as The King. Ansem just regularly drops him in the lap of like thr lead lab assistant. And BBS Even does seem like a decent guy but he's also a lab guy who later becomes Vexen, he knows fuck-all about childcare, so he sticks to what he knows and dresses the child in a tiny lab coat that doesn't fit him right and makes him do unspecified calculations??? And yells at him when he gets them wrong?? And then Ansem the Wise only shows up when he doesn't have to be the one disciplining the child and takes him out to get ice cream and they don't even get Ienzo' favorite flavor, they get Ansem's favorite flavor every time.

It is genuinely impressive how ATW managed to turn his like employee into a married single mother. And then turned their child into an employee
