The Doctor regenerating into Rose Tyler is a concept a fanfic could do wonderful, emotionally devastating things with. The actual show should not touch the concept with a ten foot pole.

okay so i’m assuming this is what happened:

the disney+ deal is still up in the air

ncuti’s career is really taking off & he couldn’t wait around/keep his schedule open for an indefinite amount of time when the future of the show is still unclear and production for a third season is far from beginning, thus the reshoots (i’m assuming the original plan was to keep him on for a third and final season on disney+ with a planned, marketed regeneration)

with ncuti out and a possible hiatus looming, it wasn’t practical to cast a new doctor

russell reached out to billie about doing a special (or two or three) as a transitional period, the same as he did with david tennant for the 60th specials

this special (or series of specials) may or may not transition the series fully back to the bbc

the actual, new full-time doctor will pick up from there for the next season

Anyway this is the funniest thing they could have done with Rogue. This should be a recurring joke, he should appear in a screen periodically to deliver a helpful message and say hey, I'm still in superhell, thanks for the superhell, I still love you though, in superhell, and the doctor should just be like. Cool thanks hot guy in superhell who loves me, and just continue to not rescue him from superhell. He's hot but not that hot I guess.

I don't really have the headspace or energy to do a proper rant but changing Belinda from a like strong willed person who wants to go home and not travel with the doctor by choice, into A Mother Who Wants To Return To Her Child is such fucking bullshit.

I'm so disappointed that Rogue only got like a minute total of screentime in s2 AND that Ncuti Gatwa's run ended only with 17 episodes! We barely got anytime with him and he's gone!

Also the brief romance with Rogue? Nope, what are you even talking about that's only relevant when Plot needs to happen. Damn what happened to the Find Me Doctor? They didn't do anything to finish the storyline in s1 so I hoped s2 had an episode dedicated to the Doctor at least trying to find him, hell even a throwaway line would have been better than what actually happened.

And Belinda? Belinda who never expressed any want for kids suddenly getting a kid thrown at her? Who's only characteristic now is Mother? I liked her in the early episodes because she was willing to push the doctor and tell him when he was wrong. But the more the season progressed it's like they kinda just had her stand there?

I would have been fine with the Poppy story if she showed some want or desire for a child of her own, or if something prevented her from doing so. Belinda never even got a proper chance to talk about how she was feeling about having a child that she doesn't remember giving birth to, just five minutes with Ruby or the Doctor, or some other UNIT personnel would have been good but she was sidelined instead.

I didn't overall like the finale even if there were some things that I thought were good.

The only thing I hope for is that IF they are going to keep Billie Piper as the Doctor, they don't write her with the same personality as Rose. I have some hope with the "Oh hello?" Sounding more like 10 tbh but still. I hope they can give her her own Doctor charm if it's more permanent.
