One of my favorite things is modern adaptations that leave people with the same careers they had in the original material, because unless you’re a cop or a doctor that practically never happens.
Irene Adler’s an opera singer. We still have those! They don’t have the same subtext exactly, but nothing is going to because we aren’t the Victorians. She could continue to be an opera singer. I have never seen this happen.
Jonathan Harker can still be in real estate. That’s a job people have. A modern story that still involves Dracula contacting his firm to help him purchase property sounds amazing actually.

I love that very specific trope where some character who is Famously Known Scheming Plotting Manipulator tells the main character something like "oh don't you worry, I know you know who I am, but you are both far too sharp and far too insignificant to be worth the effort it would take to try to manipulate you. What you think of me isn't worth enough for me to put in the work it would take."
And the main character quietly thinks "oh nice, she knows that I know things, and called me smart. As I also know that I am not a significant player in the grand scheme of things, she has now seamlessly combined several elements that I know for a fact to be true, peppered with things I hope are true (she said I'm sharp!), so now I know for sure that she has no reason nor intention to even try to manipulate me. Wait shit did she just escape."

when i first started watching d20 i never bothered checking out adventuring party because i figured it would be boring and purely technical stuff, or that it was just a watch back thing with no fun content :(
fastforward to episode ten of the cloudward ho ap. it opens with a content warning in which lou Does The Thing he’s warning you about. that Thing is eating ungodly amounts of aioli, some of which he takes with listerine strips as a little garnish. zac is actually gagging and making faces i did not know human anatomy was capable of making. emily has, for the second time in a row, pulled up the AI (2001) trailer and is watching it with sound off. siobhan and ally are singing… church songs? to soothe themselves? because the image of lou eating garlic aioli like it’s ice cream is genuinely disturbing? and murph is here too. he can’t decide whether to jump ship or try to steer away from the aioli waterfall they’re driving straight into. he gives lou more aioli. they start voting people off like it’s an episode of survivor. emily tells everyone to vote for zac and then gives zac an immunity idol, meaning it’s a tie between lou and tara. brennan plays copyrighted music somehow and gets shut down by producers. ally won’t stop doing unpaid ads for snickers. it ends with lou crawling across the table reaching for more of his beloved paste while everyone else desperately tries to stop him.
the episode opened with them putting clouds on their heads and doing the wealwell challenge. how did we get to this. i take a drag of my cigar like a grizzled fisherman recounting a battle with a vicious monster. i wasn’t always a sailor on these here seas, i lament, they drew me in with silly reels on instagram and a sense of fomo. remember when we were talkin about little beans? remember the blankets? remember the simpler days, before the aioli attacked? d’you remember? i remember.
i wipe the crusted aioli from my moustache and take another drag of my cigar.
i remember.

Okay we're being funny but "Max, what happened to you?" is now a thing Wealwell canonically said when witnessing Maxwell being violent </3 you Gotch brothers people better blow this way out of proportion and use it for angsty explorations of their relationship and upbringings. I certainly will. After I. Finished this episode and went to sleep my god
