The hum of the TV filled the room, but neither of you were really watching anymore. The atmosphere felt still, calm, the kind of energy that settles in right before something major changes.

“I think I’m in love with you,” she says, turning to her side to look you straight in the eye.

The two of you had decided to spend your Friday night together, watching TV, eating snacks, having one of your many after-work hangouts.

“Yeah?” Your eyes lift from your phone after doomscrolling socials for the last half hour.

“Yeah… I know it’s random,” she laughed nervously, her eyes not really focusing on anything before she spoke. “I just…. couldn’t hold it in anymore” Her gaze locks with yours soft, determined, like you hung the moon and stars.

You smile, trying to mask your feelings with a little humor, because if you didn’t, your heart might actually explode from the sudden confession. You shift your eyes to the TV, as if you were even watching it in the first place, embarrassment blooming across your cheeks.

“Hey, what’s so funny?” she grins, poking your arm. “I just confessed my love for you, and that’s your reaction? Ouch, L/N.”

“I’m not laughing,” you mumble, swatting her hand away playfully as she leans back into the couch. “I just think… it’s a little weird.”

“What is?” she asks in a soft whisper, her eyes never leaving you.

“Y’know… no one’s ever told me they loved me before.” You meet her gaze again.

She pauses. Something flickers in her eyes, warm and steady, as she pulls you in by the waist.

“Well…” she murmurs, voice just above a whisper, like it was meant for your ears only, even if you’re the only two in the room.

“I’m happy to be the first.”

Your breath catches in your throat and before you know it she finally closes the space between you, pressing a soft kiss to your lips.

“And hopefully the last.”

She shifts, sitting the both of you upright and guiding you until you’re straddling her hips. She kisses you again, slower this time, deeper, like she needs you.

You break away just enough to catch your breath, your forehead still pressed to hers.

“I love you.”

She doesn’t say anything at first, her gaze still lost in yours. Then she smiles.

“C’mon,” she says, her hand slowly folding into yours.

“Let’s go to bed.”
