So many things had happened so fast. People had come by the house when Amy was out, the sun was barely up, and they were trying to get him to go somewhere, get into a car. He didn’t have any appointments today! Panic had ran through him, tightening up his chest, and even if he’d begged the people in black SWAT gear to let him go back inside, he couldn’t calm down. 

The big, black, nigh-indestructible car shrank down to the size of his dining room table, and in one blink every soldier had turned into a shadowy smear on the sidewalk. 

He’d done it again. 

“I’m sorry, I’m s— I didn’t mean to, they didn’t let me go back in... ” He can feel his face crumpling up but he doesn’t think he’ll cry. He has a hard time crying, even when he wants to. “ I’m s... I’m sorry... ” 

The nice man is still here, the man in the sunglasses. David sniffled as the man smoothed a hand across his back, his heart still beating in his throat. “ I don’t want to do it again, I don’t want— to do it again. I didn’t mean to. ”

He pulled the warm mug closer to him, then caught the scent of it. David’s nose wrinkled up, slowly. He tried to not be rude as often as he could, but... 

He pushed the mug back toward the man.
