I have always been keen on the idea that one day humans will parish and leave what was once a beautiful world behind, I wanted to find out how many years it would take in order for the world to be back to what it was before humans but after humans had gone, the video above states that this would take around the 100 million years mark, and any species that live after that time may never know we were even here. Humans are destroying this planet at an alarming rate, and we are currently in a generation where at any moment we could create our own extinction, which makes me want to ask the question, is society suicidal? It is mind blowing to think that we are producing waste at the moment that is going to be around a long time after we have disappeared from the Earth. After humans nature will be able to thrive without limitation, humans are currently doing a lot more harm than good.

Technology is a wide subject matter due to the amount of technology and with how quick technology is changing it is near to impossible to be always up to date with everything about technology, but what we can do is look at technology as a whole and as people are already doing, asking a lot of questions. We are currently at a difficult time in history, our older generation has not been brought up with this technology which in affect worried them and pushes a lot of them away, compared to the new, younger, generation that has been brought up with it all their lives and probably don’t know how to live without it, this created a awkward divide in the market for technology.
Something that is happening more recently with technology is the return of the “retro” tech, examples of this is with the comeback of the vinyl players and the remake of the Nokia 3310 an old “brick” phone, this in a way also creates a weird divide in the market, on one hand we have people creating the newest technology and is always looking to move forward and create new tech, and on the other hand we have been wanting to go back to the roots and revive the old tech. Maybe the way forward is to go back to the roots, who knows?
A little more worrying lately there has been a few errors with technology with mobile phones exploding forcing them to cease production to planes crashing, errors like this make me wander whether the technology industry is moving to quick for itself.
Worth billions, the tech industry is one of the largest industries. The price of a certain gadget is often depending on a few things, the company that made it, how old the tech is, how much it costs to develop and make. Some companies use their name in order to charge extra for the product.

Some websites include advertisements on their pages, one of the most popular types of advertising online is with a company called adsense which is googles advertising sector, you can use these to advertise on your page. Often the adverts are located in around the same manor, on a lot of websites that feature advertising is at the top of the page, often displayed in a banner type way so that it stretches across the screen, this is good way to advertise something as you don’t have to scroll anywhere or go to a certain page to see the ad, it is right there as soon and you enter the website, another way is at the side or in the middle of articles as a square, ads that are displayed in the middle of the article are clever as your focus is already in that area.
Something that website advertising has that other do not is behavioral targeting this is where the website will use your browsing behaviour in order to show ads that are tailored to you to make the ads more personal, this might be enough for some people as they might think “if it’s advertised on here it must be good” and they might be nudged to go and make the purchase.
The other good think with website adverting, similar to TV and Digital Billboards is that you can have a advert with motion.
Website advertising unlike, Magazine, Newspaper and Billboard is good as you have a very side audience, maybe even in a different country.

Advertising within a village is normally done through the village newsletter, this means that you know whoever is reading your advert is very local, I believe this to be one of the most effective methods, for instance if you are are local plumber or electrician and there a a few people in the village a day that could do with some pluming work or electric work done, the first place they will turn is the local newsletter as they would want to get somebody local so they are more likely to get there quickly, A newsletter is even more local than a county newspaper. Although advertising local has its benefits it can also be not beneficial, if you are somebody that wants to expand your name to further places a newsletter would not do this, to get your name out of the village the next step would be the county newspaper. The advertisements in newsletters tend to be quite small due to the large number of adverts they need to fit onto a certain amount of pages, this is also to keep the advertising costs low as most local people with businesses can not afford to go big, there is also fewer costs involved in creating a newsletter meaning the cost is then not pushed further down to the people trying to advertise in it.

Billboard are a very good way of advertising or sending a message to a large number of people a day and quite often grabbing the attention to people that you would otherwise have not unlike with newspaper and magazines who have a selected audience, everybody who drives past the billboards will see it, billboards also gives you greater control over who sees the advert, if for instance, you would like to advertise a local venue event, advertising this on a billboard in the surrounding area would be a great idea. One of the problems with billboard advertising is that whatever the message is, it needs to be brief and straight to the point, people only have a few seconds to read the message.
It is also possible to use digital billboards, this means you are able to create an advert that includes motion, digital billboards are popular in city centres this is due to the greater number of people passing through on a daily bases, if you gave a digital billboard on the side of a building it may also be possible to see it from quite a distance reaching many more people. Digital billboards are not as common on the road, the reason for this again links in with the amount of time you have as you drive past to see it, if you display a motion or changing advert on the road you have a high chance that people will not see the important information by the time they have driven past.
Due to the large amount of space available with billboards there is greater space for graphics and is possible to think big, and use the space productively similar to how some of the billboards above use 3D, pop out type of graphics or how some of the billboards above create a background that looks like the area around the billboard, this means you can have a play on reality and how people take the advert.
Is billboard advertising dangerous to road users? Is there a worry that while people are looking at the billboard their eyes are off the road?

Magazines have lost out over the years to TV and the internet however like the news papers have, on the whole advertising in this sort of magazine is the same size, taking up the whole page, this is due to the size of the magazine being a fair bit smaller than a newspaper, half a page in a news paper is quite often a full page on a magazine.
Magazine print tends to be quite a lot clearer than the news paper this is due to the news papers using a different printed method using powder for the colour.
Most newspapers (excluding a few) are on the shelf for only one day before they are replaced, the same is not said for magazines, magazines are normally on the shelf for a week to a month, this means that advertising is not as flexible as the newspapers, on a news paper you can have an add in there for a day, couple of days, however with a magazine this is not possible and your advert stays in there until the next issue of that magazine goes on sale.

I conducted some research on advertising in news papers, the idea of this was so that I could see how adverts were placed in a newspaper, it was also so that I could see different ways of advertising, as these adverts were posted in a news paper they are able together away with adding more text as compared to a billboard, this is because with a billboard you only have a few seconds to read the poster as you drive past, however when you are reading a news paper it is clear that you are already happy to read.
News paper advertising does have its negatives such as media competition, lots of adverts, not many younger readers and only on sale for a short time.
News paper advertising also has its positives such as its flexibility and lower costs. The main reason for the cheaper advertising in news papers today is due to the growing competition like TV and internet. Some people think that news paper will soon cease to exist in the developed world this is a problem for news papers but not necessary to the companies advertising, they can choose other ways to advertise and seen as fewer people buy news paper now than ever it doesn’t seem to be a great loss.
One of the easiest adverts to be seen in a local newspaper was in the Kilburn Times in 1970 this news paper is now called London Borough of Brent.
Newspapers existed before printing, back in the Roman Times the newspapers were hand written and mainly given out to officials. One of the first printed news stories was printed in Italy in 1470 these were not conferred news paper and more one off stories.
Newspapers are now seen an an added extra when it comes to advertising, most advertising is done either on posters in the public or on the internet/TV.

This is a 15 second short video that was created by apple in order to help show off their new smartwatch, the animation is simple, it features a coloured ring that goes around another circle, this is another way of showing A to B but in an animation, everything the ring does a successful loop the video changes to a different person doing a different activity, this way they are showing off that the watch can help you with sport, it is also suggesting the watch is water proof as in one of the clips the person is swimming.

In my last projects I highlighted that one of the main areas of my projects that I needed to improve on was my research, more specifically books and magazines. With my previous projects I had a tendency to get most of my research online, although getting research online is good, it is also important I get research from books also, this is because books can give you a better feel for what the designs are like printed. One of the main problems for book and magazine research is that they can become outdated quickly and the information will not be updated until the next issue or book is released which can take months and maybe years, although in graphic design this really does not create an issue as the graphic design industry quite often grabs older designs as influence.
I went to library and found two books that had taken my interest the first book was ‘Postcard Graphics’ and the second was ‘Graphic Fusion’ the reason these books took my interest was due to the overall range of graphic design that was included. Postcard graphics can cover a whole range of designs depending on where the postcards are going to be sent from and the era of the postcards, there are a few interesting things to point out when it comes to postcards, one of the most obvious is that they can be sent anywhere in the world and is a good way of telling other people in different countries about your way of life as postcards quite often carry a personal touch, be that a place, person, art style. The other interesting thing with postcards is that people have the impression that postcards are only used to send to people through the post however also quite often postcards can also be used as a way of advertising (as leaflets) and is also a cheaper alternative.
The reason I decided to go for the ‘Graphic Fusion’ book was because it included a number of different graphic design problems and a range of canvases. This book opens my eyes up more into the industry and the different styles designers are using. The book features illustration, photography, 3D graphics and typography. The book experiments a lot with colour and shape and every page of the book draws you in to look deeper.
I took a few photographs of some of the designs in the book that caught my eye, after editing all the photographs into a collage I realised that quite a lot of the designs that took my interest implemented some form of photography. This means that I will be looking at using photography in my final project, I like the idea of being able to get a photograph and edit it and make it fit a design.
