Your Ultimate Guide for Proper Contact Lens Care
Contact lenses can be comfortable and safe to wear, provided you take good care of them. However, if you sense even the slightest sign of discomfort, discontinue using them immediately and visit an eye doctor.
Here are some essential tips for proper contact lens care:
Follow the proper care instructions
Your eye care professional will provide you with proper instructions on contact lens care, so you have to follow them thoroughly. Regular eye exams ensure that you choose contact lenses suitable for you and that you are marinating the proper habits to use and take care of them. Checkups are also a great occasion to discuss any sign of contact lens discomfort. During the contact lens checkup, the doctor will analyze the lens shape for your eyes and ensure that it is comfortable for you.
2. Read the prescription
After the eye exam is done, ensure that you read the prescription carefully. Look at the brand, measurements, type, and expiration date. If you are ordering the contact lenses online, ensure that you put in the right measurements and type to have no discomfort or irritation.
3. Follow the replacement schedule
Your eye care professional will provide you with a replacement schedule, wherein you have to replace the contact lenses once it has completed the duration. The prescription, personal eyewear needs, and lifestyle will play an important role in what kind of contact lenses you purchase.
4. Proper contact lens wear and care
To keep your contact lenses feeling fresh and comfortable, you have to ensure that you store and replace them properly. Weekly and monthly contact lenses should be properly cleaned every day and stored, after you remove them, with a contact solution. This routine is essential to remove any bacteria or protein buildup. The contact lens solution must be rubbed on the lenses to remove biofilms of protein, lipid deposits, and bacteria.
5. Keep the contacts and eyes moisturized
This is essential to avoid any irritation or discomfort. In addition, the tear films that run across the cornea will allow your eyes to stay hydrated and lubricated. Dry eyes syndrome is a common condition that is caused due to excessive exposure to digital screens, frequent flying, air conditioners, and so on. To prevent your eyes from drying out, you must change the contact lens solution every day, take them off occasionally so your eyes can breathe, avoid sleeping in your contacts, and remember to blink often. Additionally, applying lubricating eye drops consistently will keep your eyes moisturized and feeling fresh.

Reduce Digital Eye Strain with Five Simple Steps
Most people have switched to working from home or remote learning experiences amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and this has led to continuous use of digital screens that has resulted in eye strain. In addition, between work, studying, and binge-watching your favorite shows, your eyes take in much blue light, which can harm your eyes.
So, here are five simple steps that will help reduce the eye strain caused by all that screen time.
1. Give the screen and your eyes a much-needed break.
This is the first step towards reducing any eye strain. You may feel that it is unnecessary to take any breaks while watching a gripping series or if you are under a tight deadline at work (especially if you are working from home). However, taking occasional breaks from staring at your screen can help. You can apply the “20–20–20” rule; wherein, for every 20 minutes of screen exposure, you have to pause and look up from the screen; stare at an object that is 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You can even step away from your device every hour or so and take a walk or stretch your legs.
2. Blink often
It’s easy to go full zombie mode when you are cooped up at home, in front of the screen. So, to prevent this from happening, researchers suggest that you blink 15–20 times in a minute. Blinking moistens your eyes and prevents them from getting dry and uncomfortable. So, the next time you play a video game or have to draft an important email, don’t forget to blink often.
3. Adjust the screen display
Most smartphones, tablets, and laptops have display adjustment settings that make the viewing experience gentle on the eyes. You can keep your screen brightness at the same level as you would at the office. Displays that are too dark or light can lead to screen glare and strain the eyes. You can even switch to the dark mode that displays white letters on a dark background. Reading glasses are great to magnify small and hard-to-read texts on the phone.
4. Purchase eyeglasses that block blue light
Eyeglasses with blue light preventing lenses are made with a coating that prevents blue light (emitted from digital screens) from damaging your eyes and disrupt sleep patterns. You can purchase blue block lenses for any eyeglasses and at any prescription strength.
5. Get an eye exam
Regular and comprehensive eye exams are an excellent way to keep a check on your eye health. Sometimes the excessive screen time can be the reason behind headaches, dry eyes, and blurry vision. In addition, an eye exam will determine if you need a prescription upgrade or not.
