oh...it’s been one month since I graduated from grad school...

just got my grades back on my first semester of grad school...let’s say the A- was my only bad grade

I have 1 year (actually 360 days) to start my PhD plan to get into a program for 2021!

my first semester at grad school is about to finish! I just have 4 more papers to write!!

A lil motivation for my future grad school peeps who are applying

I totally understand when you are like...what if I don’t get into the program? What if I wasted all this time?

let me tell y’all a lil story about me!

I was out of school for like two years and was like hmmm I should start applying to grad school. My first obstacle the letter of recommendations.

Again I had been out of school for a while so I tapped into my supervisor from undergrad where I worked. I told them my plan and why I thought they would be the best to write a LOR. Most agreed, some ghosted me, but I managed to get 3!

Next the gre, I did really bad in my ACT/SAT and so the thought of another standardized test was...traumatic. I studied on and off and got under a 300. At that very moment I was like scrap all the work I’ve done I am not going in because I did not get my ideal score. After a talk with my sister (honestly god bless her) I submitted my scores and continued onto my application.

Then came the personal statement/statement of purpose. As a first gen I had no idea what I was suppose to write, couldn’t make it to personal and had to have enough personal stuff. I was so lost I had to google every little question I had, “do I include my childhood in my personal statement?” Often the answer is no lol. (Also check out r/statement of purpose).

Next came paying the fees, I was working at the time but applying to 5 schools was a lot of money...

After submitting my application was the hardest...the wait time. But some advice, you have done everything you were suppose to do now it’s time to relax and turning in a grad application is an accomplishment already!!

So end of the story, the odds are in your favor 2/3 will be a yes or a maybe and 1/3 will be a hard no. Don’t sweat it after you submit.
