Trying really hard not to think about how Fyodor’s probably in the back frothing at the mouth seeing Atsushi’s ability in person.

Because there’s no way after all that he’s gonna be normal about it.

Atsushi did it. Atsushi looked at this person he barely knows and saw his inner child in them. He chose to not be violent. He chose to be kind. To this stranger, by not killing them. To himself, by not feeling the guilt of murdering someone completely innocent. To his inner child, by showing someone else the kindness he was never afforded as a child. He saw the crying orphan he once was and chose to be different than the headmaster who mistreated him. He chose empathy towards someone who feels as guilty for existing as he often does. He chose to cut not only Ueda's ties, but also his own. "The tiger always does the impossible", he says, whilst attempting the impossible. He's giving someone else physical freedom whilst giving himself the mental and emotional freedom to finally feel confident in his capabilities. To not be the small, scared and sobbing child he once was. He is both literally and metaphorically breaking through the box he's trapped in. Atsushi nakajima, the actions you take. The character you are.

Words that Akutagawa has never heard. Words nobody has ever told him. Nobody has ever been there to help Akutagawa, nobody was there to save him. Every interaction he has had with people has been about their interest in his powers, remarks about his talent, notions of making him submit to their will. Always a loose canon, always an unstable devil, always an enemy.

Atsushi sees him now as someone who needs help. Someone he wants to help.

Not a second to waste on self doubt or hesitance, just pure reaction trusting his own judgement!! And seeing his ability more powerful than ever before as a result!! What do you MEAN his ability can destroy a dimensional space!!

Once again we are being show and reminded about how different the tiger is from the other abilities, and I wonder what makes it's powers and existence so different. At this point, I believe that the tiger could be something like Arahabaki, a singularity so powerful that it ended up being mistaken for a god or something equally powerful (probably due to its connection to the book), and Atsushi's ability may consist not in transforming into the tiger, but rather in carrying and protecting its power. This would explain why Atsushi and the tiger seem to have different consciousnesses and forms even though they are one and the same thing, since it is shown in Stormbringer that Arahabaki is able to communicate with Chuuya, and can even control his body and mind when the corruption is activated, despite being just a singularity and not a real god. Chuuya's corruption even resembles a bit what happens to Atsushi when he completely transforms into the tiger, as he becomes unable to control his actions, and cannot remember anything after his transformations, to the point of spending entire years without finding out about his own ability, which is quite similar to what happens to Chuuya after using the corruption

All of this going on and meanwhile sigma is still asleep, skk is crashing out in europe, jouno and tetchou are off kissing somewhere I just know it, kyouka and lucy are still in annes room, mori has probably found a glass of wine and is staring melancholically out a window and Ango is out there somewhere I’m sure still wide awake in spite of his every attempt to actually be asleep
