This is exactly how my thoughts on someone’s cool art or character studies crystallizes into proper words

Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?" What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.

I can’t stop thinking about cookies

"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.

"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"

"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."

"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."

"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.

"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."

"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."

"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.

"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.

"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."

"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."

"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."

Didn’t manage to finish this before the next chapter came out, but I was busy summoning the knife gods, so I think I can be forgiven.

Anyways, this is more art for @therantingsage’s AU (this time it’s chapter 14) and I have learned the perils of personally choosing each species of bug and plant so that they’re all native to the UK (wait, this is set in the UK, right? Oh no) and then drawing them as accurately as I could (with the exception of how birch tree branches work because oops, I totally forgot to look at references for those)

If something is drawn bigger than its real world version, shut up. Magic forest.

Behold, all of my entries to the first volume of the Wings of Fire Graphic Novel Redraw Project! This project was hosted by Malak in December last year

All seven of these pieces were drawn by me in the past several months, and I will place them in order of creation (mostly) below, accompanied by timestamps of their completion and how many hours I spent on each

Page 30 (46 hours, 45 minutes) completed on March 29th, and page 125 panel 3 (4 hours, 46 minutes) completed on March 12th (30 was started a long time before 125, hence 30 being placed first)

Page 201 (75 hours, 3 minutes) completed June 2nd, this one obviously took forever and it was very experimental, but I learned a lot making it!

Page 138, panels 3 & 4 (6 hours 14 minutes) completed on August 3rd, and page 172 panels 1 & 2 (12 hours 29 minutes) completed on September 1st. I really wanted to draw Peril, you see.

Page 5, panels 4, 5, & 6 (4 hours 36 minutes) completed on September 9th. Look at baby Clay!!! So precious, I gave him fawnspots and made a bunch of theories about how different tribes’ offspring start off and develop based on their parenting customs and natural environments

Page 172, panel 3 (exactly 11 hours) completed October 4th. I spent waaaay too much time on lighting for a single panel, but it’s so worth it. Look at it. I’m so proud of it.

I spent a bit of an unnecessary amount of time on each, but I improved a lot this year, largely in thanks to all of this! Before I started drawing these, I didn’t tend to draw fully fleshed out scenes or even backgrounds, but now I’m confident enough in my skills to start making proper scenes more frequently (notably my fanart for Finders Keepers)

Now, time to go crawl in a dark corner and continue drawing little dragon people for hours on end
