Fully bonkers how Eddie and Buck are the only ones who treat each other's absolute bizarre choices as Just Another Day and very normally address either a solution or the root problem. The basketball game fiasco? Everyone is weirded out and Eddie is going Ah Yes I Get What Happened We're Just Gonna Clarify. Eddie's street fighting era? Everyone is handling with either frustration or kid gloves and Buck is going Lol I Thought You Were Gonna Punch ME But It's Cool And Here Is My Sincere Apology Part 2. Buck is alive after being dead and everyone's worried that he's too normal? Eddie doesn't go to his place and chills till Buck comes to him like We're Gonna Sit In My Kitchen And I'm Gonna Feed You Wisdom Gently. Eddie's dead wife's doppelganger drops in with brownies? Anyone else would freak tf out but Buck is gonna sneak in through the kitchen door to not make it worse and go So This Was Freaky But I'm Just Gonna Tell You I'm Worried And We're Gonna Get Through This Because That's What Matters To Me. Literally nobody else handles them like each other.

Imagine Chimney going through Bobby's desk in his office. Having to clear personal things out. It breaks his heart, but also warms him because the captain was sentimental.

Then he comes across a small blue book labeled simply "Buck." Curious, he opens and flips through it.

Kid has eating problems. Will forget to eat when stressed. Feed him, and encourage him to cook, because he likes to taste-test a lot.

Chimney remembers that. Buck mentioning getting so hungry the starving pains go away. He does remember during the shitty times when Buck lost so much weight.

-Loves carbs

-Hates Okra

-Probably allergic to shellfish and mangos. Encourage him to get an allergy test

-Allergic to Naproxen

-Allergic to heavy fragrance laundry detergents. Use gentle.

-Remind him he's doing a great job. Use positive reinforcement.

-If he's depressed, as Maddie says, hand him a child. May and Harry work too.

-He's finally gaining weight! :)

-The Buckley parents are banned. Do not ask why. Firehouse is his safe area.

-He fidgets when he's stressed. Have him chop some vegetables or prepare them for you. He loves being helpful.

-He loves his clipboard. Have him organize important events. Give him gold stars. Do not let Hen and Chimney hide it. He gets sad.

-Remind him not to read too close or in the dark. He's gonna need glasses at this point. (If he does, don't let others tease him. Tell him he looks great)

-He doesn't admit it, but his leg still bothers him. Heating blankets are in the closet in the office. Have Eddie massage his leg or send him home early if he's obviously struggling.

Chim laughs. He laughs, and laughs, and starts to cry. Of all things, he did not expect to find a "How to Take Care of Your Buck" guide hidden away in Bobby's desk.

This was supposed to be my 'coffee cup' fic but the plot expanded oops

Mrs. Pine greets them with a smile, opening the door for them. “Glad you could join us on such short notice, Mr. Diaz.”

Buck is about to protest, saying Mr. Diaz is Christopher’s dad, but Christopher already starts talking. “Is there a school I can go to that has a STEM program?”

“Right to the point,” Mrs. Pine says, amused and fond. “There surely is, Chris. We even have multiple options. I’ll tell you about them all and give your dad some folders so you can discuss at home with both parents.”

“Cool,” Christopher says, sitting down without even blinking.

Third parent.

Dad.

Buck whump, temporarily blindness, Buddie acting (and arguing) like a married couple, angst with a happy ending, Buck wearing glasses, stubborn Buck, Eddie takes care of Buck, worried Eddie, protective Eddie, bathing/washing, non sexual intimacy, but also sexual intimacy

Frowning, he steps closer to the garage. It’s coming from the other side, except no one is home. He reaches for his radio, “Cap, there’s a weird sound coming from the garage. Permission to enter?”

“What kind of sound?” Bobby asks him.

“I don’t know, hissing.”

“Hissing as in a snake or gas? If it’s gas, you should mask up just to be safe.”

He takes another step closer, holding his breath so he can focus on the sound. It doesn’t sound like a snake, snakes don’t hiss this long. And he’s pretty sure they don’t hiss unless there is a threat. “I don’t think it’s a-“

He’s not really sure what exactly happens. Later, he won’t remember much anyway. One moment he’s standing there, grabbing his radio before planning to grab his mask and make entry. The next it feels like he’s flying.

For a moment, he is numb. Almost a peaceful feeling. Not the feeling numb thing of itself, but compared to the feeling he gets a second later. Pain. Excruciating, horrible pain.

(or: Buck gets temporarily blinded, Eddie takes care of him, but Buck is Buck)

tsunami is particularly crazy bc there’s those few moments before they find christopher that eddie thinks he’s gone. eddie, who just lost his wife, thinks his son is gone. and buck, who’s been going out of his fucking mind all day trying to find him, to protect him, to bring him back, has to try to tell eddie that he couldn’t do it. that chris is gone. and just for a few moments you can see eddie working with it, the idea that his son is gone, and his wife is gone, and his best friend was there both times, and what does he even have left and oh god christopher is gone. and it’s seconds, literally seconds. but can you imagine what the two of them felt in that moment. buck’s been stewing in panic and preemptive grief all day. eddie thought they were both safe the entire time. but the way buck tried so hard to protect chris, even though he was literally fighting nature, proves to eddie that by buck’s side is one of the best places christopher can be. just fucking… fucking tsunami arc man

Buck is tired.  He’s tired driving home.  He’s tired dropping his keys when he tries to put them on the door with half-closed eyes.  He’s tired finally walking in, putting his back away, and taking his shoes off.  And he’s tired following Eddie’s call letting him know he’s in the kitchen, even though it’s past midnight and Buck was preparing himself to just drop into the couch and not think about anything until the morning.  So he can’t really be blamed here.  Because Eddie is glancing at him over his shoulder, a lazy smile on his face, telling Buck about how he figured that since he had texted it had been a crazy shift, he wouldn’t have had the time to eat at the station so he is just finishing dinner for him, he should just sit down and wait before turning back to the pan he has on the fire. So Buck just crosses the kitchen, wrapping his arms around Eddie’s middle, pressing himself against his back, tucking his face against his neck before he can talk himself out of it.  Because apparently, he’s too tired to pretend he’s not in love with Eddie. or Buck has a long day and just says what he wants.
