"parents rights" folk are some of the most insidiously evil slimeballs imaginable but everyone gives them a pass because of some delusional cultural belief that there's an inherent nobility in popping some poor bastard into the world that gives one carte blanche to treat them like property for a decade or two

Headcanons about Chapel
I realized I have a lot of TOS headcanons and takes I haven't shared, so I'm doing a thing where I just list them in one post like this and... Yeah;
Remember her fiancé who disappeared? The one we met the robot clone of in What Are Little Girls Made Of. Yeah so, she joined up for that five year mission a few years after he went missing right. About four years, while everyone around her assumes he's dead without really knowing. There's no real closure there. Yeah so first of all she's definitely over-focusing on acting sterile and professional and calm because of that. She's tired of grieving and wants to get back to some kind of normal, even though that damn well isn't how that works. After and during that first five-year mission she works on actually getting over it for real, which is also around when she "goes and becomes an MD."
That missing husband is also why she falls for Spock. Put very simply, Spock is... Unavailable. He will never reciprocate her emotions and even if he did, which he doesn't, he would deny it and leave without doing anything about it. It's only in The Naked Time, under the influence of that sickness, that she actually dares kid herself he would reciprocate properly. Otherwise, Spock is a safe bet to put her affections onto because he won't let her close. Chapel is a nurse. She feels lost, and feels she needs someone to take care of and offload her affection to. That person becomes Spock. That's why she's happy to just get to take care of him in Amok Time. It's not really about him loving her back at all.
That being said she is actually very good at the whole bedside manners thing. She treats Riley very professionally in The Naked Time, talking rationally and making an attempt to comfort him even though he's hitting on her out of nowhere. She knows grief and fear and worry and all that can make people fragile and strange, and one of her biggest strengths is being able to keep her cool and actually deal with that.
Also, that five-year mission she has on the Enterprise is her first one. When her husband died and she couldn't stand sitting still at home anymore she said fuck it and did the future equivalent of becoming a sailor, just fucking off somewhere dangerous to get away from everything, which is also what most of the others on the crew did.
Because of that, she was kinda worried about what kind of person her superior would be. She was intimidated by him initially, but weirdly, Chapel is one of the few people on the ship that McCoy actually gets along with without friction. They hardly ever argue, and she's not scared of him in the slightest. They also never flirted or had any kinda tension whatsoever. It never even came up, and as time passes that becomes kind of a comfort. She's also taller than him by quite a bit and she's seen him get absolutely decked in a fight on several occasions, so yeah, although almost everyone else on the ship kinda dreads going for their checkups she has no fear whatsoever.
Yeah that's about it for her. Unfortunately she isn't in the show as much as everyone else so. Yeah

Headcanons about Uhura
Realizing I have a lot of headcanons or theories or takes about most of the TOS cast I haven't had the opportunity to share, so I'm going to start to just list them by character like this basically. Yeah.
In And The Children Shall Lead, as well as I Mudd, we get hints that Uhura has a fear of aging. Rather than coming across like the stereotypical "oh no I'll be old and ugly" type vanity though, it takes a different approach. When describing what she sees in the mirror in And The Children, she specifies that she sees herself dying slowly and painfully of illness at an old age. It's not about vanity or looks, so much as an image of the kind of death she's afraid of. This leads to the headcanon; she's afraid because she knows what it looks like. She's watched someone she cared about die that way, and hasn't processed it yet. Grief manifests weirdly, and sometimes rather than missing the person we become afraid of ending up the same, right? So my take is a relative or possibly even a parent did die that way not too long before she landed the first five-year mission, and it kind of haunts her.
This is more of a stretch, but someone I met who was afraid of aging was also afraid of dementia for a similar reason. Maybe that's why Spock has a specific draw, as well as why she trusts him to see and understand the truth in The Tholian Web, when she sees Kirk's "ghost" lol. That, or everyone on the Enterprise has the same type and that type is "people from the science department."
She has flings, but not hookups. She's kind of similar to Kirk in that they both genuinely like people, and like being with people. They like feeling desired and desiring others. Like Kirk though, although she does like to flirt, she at least enjoys the company of everyone she ends up having one of those flings with. It's almost never something she does "just to feel something" or because she's filling a void, she just. Genuinely likes people. There's always a lot of genuine emotion there, and although people tend to see love and sex as... I dunno. Dirty degrading and un-wholesome, I guess, I think they'd both beg to differ. I see her as bisexual with a lean towards men but there's literally zero evidence for this in canon so I digress...
Kirk is kind of using it as a coping mechanism though, and has those flings WAY more frequently because unlike her he's. Well. A Man, who has a hard time finding genuine connection and emotional intimacy if he isn't doing it romantically or sexually. She knows how to just have fun with friends is what I'm saying. Still, her and Kirk did semi-subconsciously end up bonding over the shared personality trait and for some reason, that DIDN'T lead to flirting between the two, even though that seems like it would be logical. Apparently, it isn't. If he weren't so busy (or maybe if his masculinity was even less fragile, however you spin it) he would be hanging out with her way more.
The show only tells you this in like, two episodes, but yes she's fully combat trained and actually got pretty good at it. A lot of others on the team are good at it too (Sulu, Kirk and Spock) and others kind of half-assed it before getting back to being nerds (Bones and Chekov) but she solidly belongs to the first group.
Also, she's well aware that Chekov had a bit of a crush on her during their first mission, but saw him as kind of too young and immature for her. It was cute, but not in that way.
Her and Sulu on the other hand are bffs. They just have similar minds and they get up to shit together when the others are off saving the world, just trust me.
That's about it, or at least what I remember right now. I'll probably talk about Chapel next.....

Im always so delighted to remember that the blue meth in breaking bad was rock candy and the cast would constantly snack on it. It makes me want a show that uses breaking bad's insanely well crafted cinematography and wonderful writing but it's about an old witch and her young transgender apprentice opening a candy shop in a small village in the alps
