Rhi, may we have pics of blonde long haired Flake? The height of gender fuckery at its best
You absolutely may, your taste is superb

I caught myself under my breath singing pretty boy preettie boyyyyyyy as I gathered these together

This one reminds me just of those. You know those very long dogs with the ears? Like the. Pretty dog, long, looks like flake in this picture.

This is my favourite genderfuck flake hair though, the little bob

They're way more feminine than flake actually dressed up as a woman, somehow

i think schneider was actually really excited to do the frau bit in mein teil, like he's so interested in what he's gonna wear, how his makeup is going to be, how he's going to move. like other people would try to take the piss out of it but he's actually engaged with it! wonder if schneider realized some stuff about himself cause of it
Absolutely! He put a lot of thought into it and wasnt interested in playing it for laughs in the usual way? The humour of the character has nothing to do with her being played by a man. He just wants to look Right, like that picture of Armin Meiwes' mother, and it wasn't a bad job

He puts a lot of effort into the things they do so of course this wouldn't be any different, but the careful attention he was giving it, to the point where he was discussing the amount of makeup he was wearing and analysing little details about how he was moving, is really nice to watch. I could have watched twice as much happily.

It didn't escape my notice that he started growing his hair and dressing a little differently around that time. A little more eye make up, sharing nice scarves with Paul and Oli... He definitely seemed to relax and explore his feminine side, whether it's because of Mein Teil or because Richard was at the same time or for some other mystery reason.

I choose to believe Flake has something to do with it too, what with his flagrant disregard for gender norms and the fact he questioned his gender a little (probably) when he knew Schneider. I would like each of them to write a personal and band auto/biography and have them come as a set so we can see how different their accounts of and opinions on things are.
I love the way he talks about it in this interview: no judgement or gross jokes or general dickishness, just him giggling over the fact he passed as a woman and then suggesting everyone should try it. Genuinely, how many other men their age do you know that would manage to avoid being transphobic in that situation? It's not surprising because we know what they're like, but it's pleasant.
From the Reise Reise interview CDs with Dan Bonutto:
Let's focus on the Mein Teil video for a moment, as it sees the band interpreting the music in a number of different ways. Schneider, have you always wanted to dress up as a woman?!
Schneider: I don't like that question!
Richard: I can answer that.
Schneider: Well, first of all, it's fun to do- to see how it feels when you dress up like that. Your personality changes, of course, because all of a sudden you can explore your feminine side; you start to move differently, too. Your whole behaviour shifts in a different direction, and I have to say it was an interesting experience!
It was all to do with the story, of course, and you know what that's about- the case of cannibalism where some truly weird things took place, things I've never heard of before! The guy at the centre of the story was living with his mother, even though he was around fourty years old, and there was a picture of his mother in one of the magazines that carried the story. That picture looked so scary and so much like a cliche of this type of person, that I decided I should play the mother in the video.
Some of the scenes in the video were shot on the streets of Berlin. Did anyone mistake you for a genuine woman?!
Schneider: Yes! Some kids came up to me and asked: What are you? Man or woman? Are you transexual?! And then I was approached by this older woman who was taking her dog for a walk. She started talking to me, saying that she knew people in the TV business, and that she and her dog were part of a show; she was really addressing me in earnest, and I thought that maybe she didn't realise that I'm not a woman, so I played up to the fact and continued to chat with her- it was all good experience. When you look like I did, people talk to you differently, and approach you in a different way. I would recommend any man to try this once in his life.
(there is an audio clip of the "are you man or woman?" comment floating around but I've only seen it in a silly video that I cannot find)
