Chao Yue Xuan (潮粤轩) opened for business in Northpoint City last year, helmed by an ex-St Regis Dim Sum chef selling hotel standard Dim Sum (点心) at affordable prices. Too bad mum wasn’t keen in going for a meal until this year. Happened that both mum and I weren’t feeling hungry, so I suggested we go grab something light like dim sum. 🤭 After browsing through the menu and deciding on the items we wanted, I scanned the QR code on the table and order via the online menu. First up is my Cold Honey Lemon (S$2.50) drink.

Around 10 minutes later, two steamed and two fried dim sums were served. This S$4.80 plate of Red Bean Paste Pancake (豆沙锅饼) impressed mum with its crispy shell and sweet bean paste. Next, a basket of three Steamed Har Kau (水晶鲜虾饺) with fresh prawn meat in a translucent skin. I liked how crunchy the chunks of prawn meat are.

Three pieces of Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp (鲜虾菠菜饺) with the skin dyed green from the juice of spinach. Inside is the same crunchy prawn filling. The Pan-Fried Pumpkin & Yam Cake (香煎金瓜芋丝糕) is the more unique dish I had not eaten before. Shredded yam (taro) sandwiching mashed pumpkin then pan-fried till golden-brown on both sides. The yam is crispy and fragrant on the outside while the pumpkin offered up it sweetness.

The last to be served is the Steamed Lotus Seed Paste Hedgehog Bun (莲蓉刺猬包). Two yellow buns with spiky armours and eyes in bamboo steamer basket look too cute to be eaten. Just your typical lotus seed paste bun in an attractive Instagram-able form. The paste is velvety smooth and just sweet enough which make it easy on the palate.
