It’s late one night at the club, it’s nearly empty and the lights are dim. Your eyes are fluttering shut, and you’re practically falling asleep where you sit at the bar. But a glow catches your attention— warm, a beacon in the dark, and it makes you think of summers catching fireflies in the woods. You sleepily reach out to bim, mumbling, “lightning bug?” And the name sticks. You usually call him “bug” for short.

It’s in the early days of you getting to know Eddie. He’s still prickly and suspicious and an asshole even while he’s showing you how to go through his neverending list of chores. At one point, you call him “sunshine,” and it’s supposed to be sarcastic. He rolls his eyes, but you can see the blush on his cheeks. He likes it, and you know it. As time goes on “sunshine” becomes less of a tease and more of an endearment.
