Today (November 12th 2024), the Norwegian parliament voted on which actions will be taken as a result of the Truth and Reconciliation Commision’s report on fornorskningen (translated “the norwegianization”, referring to the official policies for the forced assimilation of sámi people up until the 1980s, for example by sending the children to boarding schools to separate them from the culture.) which was handed in in June of 2023. They’ve voted to issue an official and historic apology for the irreparable harm done to our communities, languages and culture and the trauma to individuals affected, with only one party voting against it. Which, of course is FrP, the most right wing mainstream political party. Not ONLY do they not want to apologize, they want to shut down the Sámi Parliament and pull Norway out of the ILO convention on the rights of indigenous people. This comes right after massive civil disobedience actions in 2022-23 against the norwegian government continuing a human rights violation for years after the supreme court of Norway ruled it a human rights violation based on conventions on indigenous peoples human rights. Anyway, this is a win for us and the other minority cultures affected by these policies. Still, I have complicated feelings around an apology because I truly just don’t know what kind of apology could ever make up for the damage. But it’s definitely a start and things could start happening from here. I’m hopeful. they’ve also passed multiple things they will do to follow up on the report and help our communities
as always, fuck FrP

Alternatives to Harmful Crisis Lines
What’s the issue with mainstream crisis lines?
In January 2022, an article came out that exposed the fact that the Crisis Text Line was selling personal data to for-profit companies. The Trevor Project also was mentioned in this article for sharing data with Google and Meta.
They aren’t the only crisis lines with issues: this article that also came out in January 2022 talks about how the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is ignoring the testimony from their Lived Experience Committee about stopping involvment with cops, and is working with the Federal Communications Comission to try to get permission to use a newer type of mass surveillence technology during their calls.
Quote from the article: “Basically, Vibrant/NSPL argued that everyone who calls, texts, or chats through the new 988 number should have their personal information and exact current geolocation to within three meters exposed to NSPL call centers automatically, immediately, and by default.”
Beyond these ethical issues around data collection, a huge problem with almost every single crisis line is their policies of “active rescue”: basically, what this means is that crisis lines will track your location and send police to your location if they think you’re at risk of harming yourself. This happens hundreds of thousands of times every single year. This is extremely dangerous, especially for Black people using these lines. There are examples of people being shot because of calls made to hotlines where police showed up. Police showing up also leads to forced psychiatric incarceration. I personally have had the police called on me twice through a crisis line that I thought was anonymous; they showed up, entered my room without my consent, and searched me without my consent. They literally made everything in that moment worse.
If people want to learn more about the history of police involvment and crisis lines, here’s an article.
Avoid hotlines that call the cops:
Crisis Text Line
Trevor Project
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
NAMI helpline
LGBT National Hotline
SAMHSA National Hotline
List of State Crisis Lines that all call cops
Alternatives that do not share data or call the cops
Pretty much every national and mainstream crisis line calls the cops. A general rule of thumb is that unless it specifically mentions that it doesn’t call the cops on their website, it does. I also haven’t done a ton of research on the data sharing side for the lines I’m listing below, but if anyone has any more info please let me know and I’ll update the list.
National:
Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860, 24/7
THRIVE: text message line at 313-662-8209, 24/7
Promise Resource Network: (833) 390-7728, 24/7
Project Return Peer Support Network: (888) 448-9777 English or (888) 448-4055 Spanish, hours are Monday through Friday 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Wildflower Alliance Peer Support Line: 888-407-4515, hours are 7pm to 9pm Monday through Thursday and 7pm-10pm Friday through Sunday
Key Consumer Organization: 800-933-5397, hours are 8am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
MBRLC Peer Support Line:  877-733-7563, hours are 4 pm-7:45 pm every day.
Check out this page for a directory of warmlines by state. These are much less likely to call the cops, but it’s good to check with each individual one about specific policies.
If anyone has more info, please add on!

Howdy folks, the Senate will be considering the first ever resolution blocking arms to Israel. This is huge and historic; it would block government contracting and about $20 billion in arms and support. This is an uphill battle, PLEASE urge your senators to support S.J.Res114-115. This is maybe the most important piece of legislation relating to Palestine that we have ever gotten and we must seize this opportunity.
This doc has information on the resolutions and their process, as well as sample messages and a phone script you can use. Please, use this moment to hear witness for your neighbors.

Senators are going to vote on whether or not we should continue to send aid to Israel on Wednesday, November 13th. Call them, bombard their phone lines with calls. Every fucking day. We have a chance of doing something about this.

From the book Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD:

Putting a coat on the back of a chair by the door is fine, but if you prefer, use coat hooks and a large catch-all basket for dropping keys, hats, gloves.
Small bookcase end-table next to the couch to store craft projects, books, and other things being worked on for easy access.
Add a storage unit near the dining room table to transition between eating and working there.
Daily toiletry items should be stored in a basket that you can move easily
Extra toiletries and medicine cabinet items go in open shelf/basket storage so they can be seen and used easily. If items no longer fit, purge the excess. Don’t obscure the view!
If you disrobe in the bathroom, place a tall hamper in there.
Keep a set of cleaning supplies in each bathroom

every night owl I know (myself included) is as careful as possible and as quiet as a mouse so not to wake up or disturb people who are asleep while they’re awake but from the moment a morning person wakes up they will make as much noise as possible as if their god given purpose is the be the loudest most inconsiderate person alive

the most depressing part is that it's not even kamala's stance on genocide that is costing her the elections. i wish it were. it's people genuinely shifting for trump. but it's the pro-palestine movement that's going to get the blame for it.

16 frame shooting star animation. January 2022-September 2024 Needlepoint
Frames from my shooting star gif. 16 frames total. Each frame is 8x6.5 inches on a 10” mesh. Designed and animated in photoshop and needlepointed by me. I started drafting this 1/14/22 and finished animating it 9/25/24. It took approximately two years and eight months to finish. This is one of the largest projects I’ve ever worked on and I’m very happy with how it turned out.
