I would love to say that you make me weak in the knees but to be quite upfront and completely truthful you make my body forget it has knees at all.

Male privilege is “I have a boyfriend” being the only thing that can actually stop someone from hitting on you because they respect another male-bodied person more than they respect your rejection/lack of interest.

“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.”
― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

Even though I read this book a little bit ago I still can't help but be so fascinated by the way Hemingway plays and violates with gender and gender norms. He was so ahead of his time.
When I first began reading this book, it was so Hemmingway, and I thought it was going to be a bit male egotistical, but the more I read it, I was confused about where Hemmingway stood. On one hand, he made Catherine so independent and carefree, but then she would have emotional breakdowns, while David remained cool and collected. However, the more I read it Catherine remained very strong and open minded, perhaps the most open minded married female character I have ever read on, and I thought it was really awesome of Hemingway to do that. Anyway
Another thing I thought Hemingway was so brilliant about, was creating the character David be an author and be writing in the novel in the book.
Regardless, my rant is over, it's just re-reading it now late at night really got me going.
