Seasons change above her grave,
Where she's thought to lay.
Only I who know the truth—
That godforsaken day.

Burned and bruised, and turned to ash,
We'll never find who's won—
Why blooming life had shriveled fast,
a world she'd just begun.

All I knew could not defend her;
Years of skill withered still.
I had to save her—keep her near,
My hope—a silent kill.

God had gifted just to take,

Faith broken, shattered, one clean break.

He lit the match and snuffed it—

A bright new flame to smother.
That all my work and all my love

Would make me a good mother.

Sometimes I think about Melissa Scully with all her crystals and stars, and think how she probably forced Scully to sit down while she did an astrology or tarot or tea reading on her at like 11 and said she can tell her about her future husband.

And Scully would say “you see a cat and some kind of wild dog! That’s not even a person!”

And Melissa would be all determined, “not a literal animal, Dana! Like a wild dog. A tiny one but in the woods. Metaphors, Dana! Don’t spoil the fun.”

Eyebrow arched, “He’s a wolf? A fox? A lost labrador?”

“Ok fine, make fun of me.”

“I’m sorry. Ok, what else do you see… Madame Melissa?”

“Mmmm clay.”

“Clay!?”

“Like…. A builder. You know? Making ah- ah—”

“…..a carpenter? A dog in the woods, and a builder. Those are my options?”

“No. Mold. That’s what I mean.”

Blank stares. “Melissa. Put it away. I don’t think this is working. Mold!? That doesn’t make any sense!”

“Not mold as in the black yucky stuff. Mold! As in to shape something.”

“So not a builder but a mold-er?”

“Yes!”

“This is why I choose science. Not a single thing in all of that did it make any sense.”

“….want me to describe your house?”

“Sure.”

scully family thoughts !!

scully’s familial ties are so interesting. being closer to her father and brother as a kid, the skeptical & traditional paranormal non-believers, versus her mother and melissa who spoke of visions and had a thinking outside of the typical realm. how much it mustve impacted her own beliefs and her initial skepticism towards mulder in his line of work. losing her father and her abduction occurring so soon after and the only people there to comfort her being her mom, her sister, and mulder similar to her cancer treatments later. seeing that terrible side of bill's unwillingness to accept her reasoning and hope and instead blaming her and her newfound openness for the death of her sister and her current predicament. it mustve been such a stepping stone for her to see the strong men in her life reduced to an unsupportive source and a ghost of her past
