All hail Níf, Witch of Words!

Obviously just one person's opinion but--it's pretty safe to say Níf is decidedly on her own path of witchcraft, rather than becoming the next Witch of the World's Heart.

And I think whatever new station is ultimately created for Níf, it will involve "Word" in its title.

Our girl has always been a witch who could rival any wizard for bookish-ness, most confident in her new life when she could help Ame via research.

When faced with the overwhelming challenge of 80 traumatized and displaced children, her instinctual response was to listen to their words, seek out a translator, and gather up their stories.

The way she caught The Man in Black at what he was trying to pull with the children of the Grenaux was by his vague wording.

And when we find her in the finale post credits scene #4, she's spreading the word of the Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One's good deeds.

So, until stated otherwise, Níf shall be the Witch of Words in my heart.

I also like it when the vampire is interviewed but the vampire lies a bunch!

I especially like it when both the vampire and the interviewer habitually lie to themselves as a function of toxic masculinity over discomfort with their respective queerness-- but in mirroring one another as narrative foils, they keep accidentally stumbling more deeply and intimately into their respective truths.

And I really like it when both the vampire and the interviewer lie but don't even know they're lying at first, because the other older, more powerful vampire hanging out for the interview has taken both the interviewer's and the vampire's brains to a metaphorical cheesegrater to shave off their memories.

(But admittedly, I like it even more when both the interviewer and the vampire team up to maximize their joint slay and recover some of those cheesegrated memories together. It is literally one of my favorite episodes of television of all time.)

And I am really, really, really looking forward to the new season/show, where the different, more famous vampire gets interviewed but that vampire also lies a bunch.

But I hate it when that vampire's fans in the real world try to take that vampire at face value and declare his (gloriously fun and arguably more intentional) lies as the source of Ultimate Truth in the story.

As someone who read most of the books as a teen and loved most of the ones I read: honestly, it's really not necessary to read the books to enjoy the show.

Like, yes, part of the show's brilliance is in the way that it performs a gorgeous alchemy with all of its adaptational changes and word-for-word quotes of the source material. It challenges a lot of the books flaws from a 21st century pov, injects the world with broader perspectives that enrich it, and lovingly honors the spirit of the books all at the same time.

But honestly, I would hesitate to recommend the books to show-first fans. The books are deeply products of their time and very much the work of one singular (and infamously controversial) creative mind. And I can imagine show-first fans easily becoming frustrated with them, even with all of the 'the books and the show are very different' warnings in the world.

But if you consider yourself a fan of vampire fiction as a genre even when it's not trending, then personally, I would actually consider Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned to be required reading. These books in particular are just so foundational to our culture's contemporary image of vampires that vampire-genre-for-its-own-sake enjoyers would be missing out not to have read them.

ok but what if i start going on abt how assad zaman posted shaky video of a sunset over water that is extremely evocative of armand's eyes (now also shared with his fledgling daniel molloy) with the song "it's not enough" by heaven to his Instagram story--

a song that includes the lyrics "it's been so tough lately / I need to see in your eyes / see in your eyes / can't take this much, baby / I need to see in your eyes / see in your eyes"--

or how about my theory that when they announced at comic con that delainey hayles (the second actor to play claudia) will be returning for season 3 "but she'll be playing a different role", they didn't mean that like 'she'll be playing ghost!claudia as manifested through lestat's guilty conscience, which is a separate and distinct character from claudia-proper' but that they'll actually have her playing akasha?
