((Spoilers for the Shibuya Arc & Later Arcs in JJK))
It's kinda funny how love is neither good nor evil in jujutsu kaisen; how it's used as a justification for selfish acts; how it can be molded and shaped into something selfless by selfish hands
Using Itadori and Fushiguro as an example: It is selfishness that pushes Fushiguro to save Itadori from execution; it is selfishness that calls Itadori back from the darkness, cursing him once again to save him; and it is selfishness that insists that Itadori stay by his side despite the risk. Likewise, it is selfishness that made Itadori run away from jujutsu tech; it's selfishness that combats Fushiguro's desire to bring him back; and its selfishness that makes him assume that everyone would be better off without him, that Fushiguro would be better off without him.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not saying that selfishness is a bad thing, I actually think it's more neutral than anything bc there is nothing inherently wrong with taking care of yourself first! In fact, that should be encouraged! I just think in these examples, the lines between making a choice out of selflessness vs out of selfishness are intentionally blurred and could honestly be considered either or depending on your personal view of things.
But that's just it right? It's based on how you, the outsider looking in, interprets those actions. And this can subsequently lead to hypocrisy, with the number 1 poster child of this being Fushiguro: accusing Itadori of being selfish for not wanting to put him in danger as if he's some sort of saint; that he simply declared Itadori save him out of the pure kindness of his heart; that he himself saved Itadori just bc he's a nice guy, as if he hasn't admitted to acting out of selfish and personal bias.
Tumblr media
But it's definitely not all selfish, of course not. There's nothing selfish about wanting others to be okay and safe and alive, and being willing to actively sacrifice yourself to do so is beyond selfless. But when you combine that with the personal feelings one might have for making those decisions, things suddenly don't seem as neat as they did before. Suddenly, all this finger pointing at who's selfish and who isnt starts getting real confusing because everyone ends up looking like a hypocrite. But its this mental tug-o-war that drives Itadori, Fushiguro and many other characters in jjk; it's what influences their actions. But that's not how everyone in this story operates.
Tumblr media
"Fulfillment" is also a prevalent theme in jjk, particularly in the Culling Games. Many of the newest additions have motives following this concept and it too is naturally entrenched in selfish desire. All of them fight for something attainable, something that will fill them and satisfy them. Here, love is molded as an expression of passion, something that is given and (hopefully) returned in kind. Think Ryu's love for battle and desire to fight to the fullest returned by Yuuta, who gives him the fight he wanted vs Takaba's love of comedy and desire to make others laugh rejected by the crowd he faces. However, regardless of how this "love" is molded, it is still linked to selfishness, and it actively shapes how these characters move and interact with the world as well.
Tumblr media
I'm honestly just rambling here but I just think it's fascinating how love, fulfillment, selfishness and selflessness are shown to be intertwined in jjk. Love of something, a desire for love, a desire for fulfillment, fulfillment through so-called selflessness: these are what I think to be the guiding forces of jujutsu kaisen ^^

((Spoilers for the Culling Game Arc in JJK))
I find it interesting that Gojo Satoru, someone who failed to save the person he loved, sort of acts like a catalyst for Itadori and Fushiguro when it comes to them saving each other.
Tumblr media
Lemme explain a bit further: In the beginning of the manga, Fushi tells Gojo that he wants to save Itadori despite his previous actions saving otherwise. But he only acted that way before Gojo had come onto the scene. Similarly, after Fushi's possession by Sukuna following his declaration to be saved by Itadori, Itadori fails to save him. It's only now that Gojo is back that there's any chance of saving Fushiguro. Of course, we're still in the middle of this fight and don't know what will happen but I think there is a connection here. Regardless, in both situations, neither Fushiguro or Itadori had the strength to save the other, but through Gojo they're able to.
And I think this connection is only emphasized by the multiple parallels these two situations have:
Both introduce and subsequently reintroduce Gojo into the story
Both involve a fight between Gojo and Sukuna
Both involve either Itadori or Fushiguro being possessed by Sukuna
The previous Gojo vs Sukuna fight and the "I would win" dialogue that follows it is literally just foreshadowing for the current Gojo vs Sukuna fight lol
Tumblr media
I think there's possibly more to be said about the reasons Gojo is being used in this way narratively aside from the satosugu-itafushi parallels but I'm simply too tired to think about them and we're not even close to the conclusion on the current Gojo vs Sukuna fight for me to potentially go deeper on this lmao this was just a vague thought I had and wanted to write a bit about ^^

((Spoilers for the Shibuya Arc of JJK))
With the Culling Games pushing onward and the dubious nature of Nobara's condition still in the air, I think it would be fun to explore a potential route the story could go if she is alive.
Before getting into things let's first remember that the last we saw of Nobara, she was treated by Arata Nitta from Kyoto High and then taken back with him (supposedly, anyway). It's likely that with her condition the way it is now as well as her relationship with Gojo and Itadori, she won't be leaving the sight of the higher ups and will likely stay within Jujutsu Tech.
Tumblr media
The basis for everything that follows is based specifically on this fact, and would require that two other factors become established along with it:
Nobara would first and foremost have to be conscious. Given her state now it's unlikely that she will suddenly pop up in the current arc, however, it could be made to work at some point.
The higher-ups would have to find out that Itadori is still alive. The higher-ups aren't stupid, so it wouldn't be a shock if they learned that Yuuta had tricked them.
At this point, it should be clear where I'm heading with this: the higher-ups could use Nobara as a way of killing Itadori by forcing her into a binding vow. They likely know that the two are close and on top of that her technique could absolutely crush Itadori given the right circumstances.
Tumblr media
Getting Yuuta into a binding vow was one thing, he was actively working against them and had already known what was going to happen. But getting Nobara into a binding vow to kill Itadori is a whole different story.
She has strong connections to Itadori, and they trust each other
She, to our knowledge, is not fully aware of what happened at Shibuya in regards to Sukuna's massacre
She is severely injured and likely cannot fight back in the state that she is currently
These facts, specifically the last two make her a perfect candidate for being manipulated and/or subsequently forced into a binding vow in the eyes of the higher-ups, especially bc her relationship with Itadori would make it easier for him to lower his guard.
This way of reintroducing Nobara into the story would not only be more organic and plausible (at least to me lol) but would allow her some character growth as well. The manipulation and pain she would have to experience as a result of the higher-ups could make her finally understand the reality that female jujutsu sorcerers have to share and the standard they have to uphold (as said by Momo). This could also be a way to explore who these higher-ups are and how their system functions as we can only speculate at this point in time.
Either way, whether she is alive or not or how she's brought back, I would just like to see her acknowledged. She has so much potential and I would love to see Gege tap into it further!

I was listening to Pure Love by Mother Mother and it made me think of Jujutsu Kaisen and how love is often presented as a double-edged sword; how it can be both a blessing and a curse. So I thought of making a list of important acts of love or shows of affection throughout the series so far. This is just my interpretation, so it's okay if you think differently! Also I’m writing this hella late at night and going off of memory so I might miss some important events lmao
Spoilers Ahead:
Rika and Yuuta’s vow to marry each other
Yuuta cursing Rika after she gets killed
Gojo killing Geto
Rika thanking Yuuta and properly passing on
Itadori’s final words to Fushiguro before dying
Itadori consoling Junpei
Nobara calling her and Itadori “accomplices” after killing Eso and Kechizu
Fushiguro and Nobara hiding the fact that the fingers are resonating from Itadori vs Itadori and Sukuna hiding that fact from Fushiguro
Geto telling Riko that they don’t have to go to Tengen
Gojo letting Geto walk away
Geto saving Mimiko and Nanoko
Nanami’s last words to Itadori
Nobara’s chair metaphor
Todo reinvigorating Itadori at his lowest point
Mechamaru’s last words to Mika
Itadori saying that he can no longer stay with everyone
Fushiguro asking Itadori to save him
Mai sacrificing herself for Maki
Maki destroying the Zen’in clan for Mai
Tumblr media
There are a lot more instances of this, but these are the ones that stood out to me the most. I think it’s also interesting how Gojo tells Yuuta that love manifests the most distorted curses, but then Yuuta sort of reverses that idea during his fight with Geto and uses the love that once cursed Rika and him by extension to defeat Geto. And then through the realization that Yuuta cursed Rika, was able to let her pass on properly. Basically saying “yes, love CAN manifest the most distorted curses but it can also save others and give them a reason to keep living.” I just think it's really cool that Gege presents love in a more ambiguous way, rather than something that is inherently good or bad.

Yes I headcannon that nobara can’t use a hammer and nails outside of combat, yes I know it doesn’t make any fucking sense, no you cannot stop me from believing it
Nobara’s full rant below:
“Everyone just automatically assumes that I'm great with a hammer and nails and most tools, actually, but I just. Cant??? I have HORRIBLE precision and accuracy and I've gone to the eye doctor multiple times but they say nothing's wrong? But like why can i only properly use them in combat??? It makes no sense and long story short this is why i wanna get a nail gun but like those cost so much money???? Like is it REALLY worth it, you know? Frankly I think yall should buy nail guns too because even if I COULD help you, I just don't. Feel like it??? Do it yourself??? Also the whole process of hammering in a nail when I'm not in mortal peril is extremely stressful for me and I frankly don't need that kind of negativity in my life, so yeah.”

(Spoilers for chapter 138 of JJK)
Words really do have a lot of meaning. And even when things may seem "resolved" the ripple effects of what someone said can follow you forever. In this case, its what Fushiguro said to Itadori during the Cursed Womb Arc:
"Who's to say that someone you save won't kill someone in the future?"
As I've stated in a previous post (which you can find here), Fushiguro and Itadori have become the people in that scenario, with Fushi being the savior of a murderer and Itadori being that murderer.
Tumblr media
I just think its incredible that those words that Fushiguro said to Itadori have been an active influence in what he does. The first instance (off the top of my head) is after the OoO Arc where Itadori withholds the fact that the fingers are resonating from Fushi to prevent Fushi (and himself) from feeling guilty for saving him, and now we have the second instance.
While this is an important reason for Itadori’s isolation, there are a few more factors to consider; his new knowledge that Sukuna has something in store for Fushiguro and the hundreds and thousands of deaths now linked to him bring him to isolate as well not just for the sake of his own feelings, but for the sake of his friends, most importantly Fushiguro. Just as Fushi wants to protect Itadori, Itadori wants to protect Fushi. This isolation, to him at least, is part of that protection.
Tumblr media
But Fushiguro obviously isn't gonna let that be. He's going to find Itadori whether Itadori likes it or not. How he feels about everything that happened or if he's going out on orders or of his own volition is unknown, but this seems to be a set up for a big confrontation between the two that has been steadily building up since the Introduction Arc.
With Yuuta and Naoya on Itadori's tail as well things will become much more complicated, so this could go in a number directions. As usual, we just gotta sit tight and wait to see what happens next!
