ok so this is gonna be a weird request, but i gotta make sure my friend and i arent insane

we both read this short story years ago about a family at a beach, when a dead whale drifts towards the shore. the parents get their kids out of the water as the smell gets worse, and a seagull eventually comes up onto the shore and dies, another family's kid picks it up and it suddenly explodes, splattering them in the guts and whatnot of the gull. the parents rush their kids out as the other beachgoers begin to panic as more seagulls pop, then the last bit as the family is fleeing the beach is a scene about them seeing the kid who got splattered complaining about feeling sick as they get into the car, and once the whole family is in they explode, and the last line is about the father watching them in the mirror as the parents flee the now gore-soaked car, covered in their kid's guts.

i cant remember where either of us read it, but weve been searching places like the wanderer's library to no avail and its really eating at me in particular lol, and i figured yall could potentially help
