as of today the gofundme is only 53% funded. at every public request for support or autonomy this family has been denied abilities to provide for adriana’s end of life & chance’s beginning of life care on their terms. emory in collaboration with the state has exercised such a heinous act of violence that i will never forget, i’m so sorry adriana smith.

i’m not sure how long the hospital’s google page has had the questions feature removed but most of the previous comments amplifying adriana smith has been deleted + the ig comments for @/emorymidtownhospital have been off for nearly a month.
it’s a small & insignificant solace knowing that their commitment to sanitizing the appearance of their sadism can be traced…time to be act up in @/emoryhealthcare comments & dms!!

I started crying while reading about Adriana Smith and I haven't stopped.
Please help her family.
Adriana was mistreated and dismissed by medical professionals which ultimately led to her brain death, due to multiple blood clots. Because she was 9 weeks pregnant at the time and living in the state of Georgia, her family has been forced to keep her on life support, essentially becoming an incubator for her unborn child which her body must carry to term.
I'm disgusted with how she was treated when she was ill, despite her being a nurse. I'm heartbroken for her first child, her boyfriend, and her parents who were given no choice in keeping her body alive to sustain the pregnancy. Her family is uncertain about the health of the baby, whether he will live, whether he will be born with disabilities that will require many resources to provide him a good quality of life.
Our country was built by exploiting and denigrating black women's bodies. It's disturbing... ethically, spiritually, to think about Adriana within the historical context of medical experimentation on black women.

Again, please help her family prepare for whatever comes next. Her children need support and it's currently unclear (to me) whether her family will be responsible for the medical bills associated with life support and delivery of her child.
Help Adriana's Family During This Heartbreaking Journey

Family says woman declared brain dead but her pregnancy continues under state law
Adriana Smith's been on life support 90+ days with weeks to go in her pregnancy. Her family questions Georgia’s heartbeat law — and why they had no say in her care.
Adriana Smith, a registered nurse at Emory University Hospital, was nearly nine weeks pregnant in early February when she started experiencing intense headaches. According to her mother, April Newkirk, Smith sought treatment at Northside Hospital but was released after being given medication.
The next morning, Newkirk said Smith's boyfriend woke to her gasping for air in her sleep—gargling sounds he believes were caused by internal bleeding.
