so, i just really wanna take a sec to talk about my very second favorite animatronic/the only one that still strikes genuine fear into my heart, singing sam the gorilla man at wall drug in south dakota. he was replaced (as far as i can tell) in the 2000s, possibly around 2004? and now i guess he’s just singing sam, since he cant really truthfully be called a gorilla. more of a chimpanzee, maybe? at least he’s still an ape.
the old sam looked... a little horrifying, if any of you recall. at some point, his jaw broke from years of work and was never repaired, hanging slack on his face and creating a grim smile not wholly unlike a rotting corpse, imo. the furry covering on the tips of his fingers wore away, just adding to the subtle creepiness of it all

i have to repeat, he really is the only animatronic that still strikes a genuine fear in me. and maybe because of that, and maybe despite it, i kind of love him? he’s loveable in a way. i mean, look at his terrible fashion sense... his quilted foil coat... i’ll miss the old sam who took up that seat. at least he still exists in photographs
but it’s not a complete loss! it seems that his successor (son, maybe? distant cousin?) is great in his own right, although i seriously can’t tell if those furless bits on his chest are meant to be there or have somehow worn down, and i don’t know which is worse. i really enjoy his lip sync! and he looks very very fresh. his song is so much more unique, too! so, i guess i gotta love new (ish) sam as much as the old. but i still hope that the old sam is still doing good out there, somewhere, living out his retirement in peace

Bedrock City, a now-closed Flintstones-themed attraction in South Dakota, had its own animatronic show!
I’ve found a lot of grainy, not-very-good snippets of the band over the years, but found a pretty decent chunk of footage in a video filmed in 1998.
They were apparently made by the Sally Corperation in 1996, which explains why they look pretty decent here.

Was at Six Flags Fiesta Texas last Saturday and I got to see the “J-Fatz” animatronic. They have him set-up for their Fright Fest event, to play in the queue area for one of their haunted houses. Not sure if they’ll still have him out and playing somewhere else in the park after Halloween is over, so if you’re a Rock-afire Explosion fan who lives in Texas, here’s your chance to see him until at least Halloween.

For years I had very vague memories of a robot band at the New York FAO Schwarz. I thought I had imagined them, until I finally found this video! Ironically enough, their song is called “Just Imagine”!

If you haven't seen it already, how about the dinosaur animatronics at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium? That ride is my favorite. It's strangely not the only dinosaur animatronic themed attraction in Ohio- there's also the Cedar Point dinosaur path, but it's not as good IMO.
Oh wow, these guys?

I bet this is amazing in person! They’re better maintained than the ones on Universal’s Jurassic Park ride, too. Interesting. :P

I admit, I’m pretty happy that the only vid of King Kat has him singing my favorite MJ song.
Mine is more Beat It, but Thriller IS a classic! I love the announcer, he has so much character.

they have a FNAF animatronic for sale for halloween and its “life sized” but its 3 feet
you trying to tell me they’re only 3 feet tall in-game canon
are you telling me in-game i can’t fend off a toddler-sized broken robot
do you have any idea how big real CEC-type animatronics are because those things can tower over a grown adult and you’re telling me freddy and his gang are roughly the height of a 5-year-old but they can still effortlessly kill people
#im crying those things are like canonically seven feet tall i think#springtrap might be slightly shorter bc of the nature of the suit#fnaf

so I got to go to the Columbus Zoo yesterday and saw the animatronics in the Dinosaur Island exhibit as well as the one they have near the entrance to the zoo promoting Dinosaur Island! I got some pictures and a short video so I'll post them as soon as I can get them off my camera

Good luck figuring out that emotion you’re feeling as you watch this dinosaur dog chores robot
You think that’s cute? Looking forward to your chores dino bot? Watch how it handles slipping on a banana peel.
