Yep. All of this. It doesn't stand on its own, I had to explain what was happening and why in the 1st 2 eps to my DH, because it was moving too fast with minimal introductions to the characters, which left you with why should I care feelings. Seems they were making a one season show TBH. Personally I would have preferred a bit more originality than the obvious tropes. 🤷♀️
Blood of My Blood : A Prequel that Echoes Too Loudly
Starz’s Outlander: Blood of My Blood arrives with the promise of expanding the beloved Fraser saga, yet what it delivers feels less like a bold new chapter and more like a carefully engineered echo of the original.
The series follows two parallel love stories—Jamie Fraser’s parents in the Scottish Highlands and Claire Beauchamp’s family in England. On paper, this sounds like fertile ground for fresh drama. In practice, it’s strikingly familiar. The rebellious heroine, the noble warrior, the lush landscapes, the sweeping romance against turbulent history—every note is replayed almost exactly as Outlander fans first heard it.
Visually, the show is sumptuous. Costumes, cinematography, and music recreate the aesthetic that made Outlander so transportive. But the beauty often feels like déjà vu. What should feel like world-building instead comes across as recycling.
Critics have praised its fidelity to the original spirit, but that very fidelity is its weakness. Blood of My Blood rarely dares to carve out its own identity. Beyond moving the timeline back a generation and adding genealogical layers, it offers little that feels truly new.
The result is polished, watchable, even comforting—but also creatively timid. For devoted fans hungry for more of the same, it’s satisfying fan service. For others, it risks being remembered less as a saga’s bold expansion than as a mirror reflecting Outlander back at itself.
This is just my opinion. 😘😘😘

Funny how Sam's drawing of Graham in the happy sad confused skit looks an awful lot like the lemon and hugs face 🫢
