âa grandma that knows what side to be on.â she quipped, ever so smug. the tap on her wrists she usually got was fine with her. scooping out what remains of her sundae she listened more to what he was telling her. a house? it was a nice idea but she wondered how well that would goâ would they even live in it, or would they still be travelling from motel to motel? hey, she wasnât saying no, she could say yes all she wanted but of course for rhi, niko made the final decisions. âi do not snore.â she scoffed, feeling a little huffy, adamant she didnât. âi think itâs a good idea,â she was starting to think of the space theyâd have and it was in truth, it was becoming appealing. âdo you think niko would?âÂ
âyeah, your own, selfish twit.â he teased. he was still munching on his deserts, powering through them like a man starved - which wasnât far from the truth. before he came here, heâd only had say, a couple fruits in a couple days. had she noticed? was that why she offered lunch? he didnât mind though, he was ( very obviously ) hungry enough to accept. âyou snore worse than niko.â and they both knew how bad that was. âfart too.â cade lifted an amused brow, clearly trying to embarrass her. but he was also making his point, they would all love their own space. âi just think weâd pay the same amount of money to be in a motel. iâd rather be in a house that has a shower without the scabby tiles. and a kitchen, where we can make niko cook for us.â he joked, mostly. âi donât see why not. looks like weâre gonna be here long enough to make it worth it.âÂ

when cade said that lilith was here, nothing else mattered. she was in town, which meant it was more important than ever for sam to be at full power. he needed to call ruby. how had lilith managed to get so close to them without ruby knowing. âyou saw lilith?â he asked, stepping forward again. âwhen? where?â if she was still in town, now could be the time for sam to stop her. heâd finally get the revenge heâd been searching for ever since dean died. it didnât matter that he was back now, he still had to live with the memory of watching his brother being torn apart by hellhounds.Â
âdean doesnât get it. heâs my big brother, he thinks he has to protect me from everything, but he canât protect me from this. i have to do this, even if i die in the process. my brother doesnât get that, and he wonât let me die even if it means savings the world.â but sam didnât care, he was already on a path to somewhere dark, and maybe heâd end up in hell, but he could do something good before then. he could stop lilith and save the world. sam opened his arms up and took a deep breath, looking cade square in the eye. âso if youâre gonna shoot, then shoot. but if thereâs a part of you, even a small part, that thinks i might be telling the truth, then help me stop lilith.â
âpretty sure i just said that. guess you were a little distracted. you still got a little something on your face.â meaning, blood. what a fucking bizarre situation, cade felt like he was at an absolute loss. what was he supposed to do? what could he do? âin the street, she ambushed me and took me to a bar near the edge of town.â he grumbled. when he thought about it, he still had to think twice, like he couldnât believe it really happened. âi didnât do this to myself.â pulling his shirt down again to show liliths name on his collarbone. âsheâs a little slash happy, huh?â his brows lifted and fell.Â
âmaybe you donât get it. shoe on the other foot, sam.â if this was niko or rhiannon? heâs pretty sure heâd be a mixture of intense emotions and none of them would allow them to carry on doing it. âbut who told you this? who said to you, hey, drink some demon blood and you can kill lilith and save the world? and at what point did you just believe that was a good thing to try?â to start with the blood, he meant. âman, iâm not gonna shoot, but donât think that means iâm okay with literally any of this. weâre supposed stop these things, not juice offa them. you do shit like that, what makes you better than them?â

she waved off his sorry, it wasnât needed. there was even a smile, as if trying to silently say he was misinterpreting it. when, in fact, he wasnât. she wasnât looking on expanding either, she was just answering his question. she didnât mind doing it, things like this worked both ways, he was answering her, so why wouldnât she? âquite the burger guy, hey?â she chuckled, though understood. âiâm more sweet, really. back home thereâs this.. cakeâ revani, melts in your mouth. the things iâd do to have one now..â sheâs joking, a little smirk on her features as she walks along side him. she notes his just us now, guessing that meant he had lost a few himself. she doesnât touch on it, she just nods in simple understanding. âyes. end of the world. iâve learned a lot already since being here, actually. i hate the waiting game though.â the number one thing she had discovered? angels. that was crazy. âhence the drink, eat, sleep, repeat.â
âiâd say the burger king if i wouldnât get done for copyright.â he smiled. sure, burgers were his typical go to fast food, but he was sure that went for most people on the road, quick and greasy. it would be a wonder they werenât all fifty stone if it wasnât for the fact they spent half their time running and fighting. ârevani.â he repeated, never heard of it. âiâll remember that if i ever make it outta this place to go visit.â cade scoffed out a laugh, though the fateful truth of it was that half of him never expected to leave here, at least not in-tact. âyeah, like what?â he wondered. âcould tell you a story or two, also.â whether he would was a touchy subject. give him a minute and heâd figure out how to say it without the need to tell her the entire truth ( aka, leave out the part with the demon donning the dead girlfriends voice. ) âcanât judge, do the same thing myself.â he shrugged. âwhich... is kinda sad now we say it outloud, huh?â he chuckled.

âlilith?â the name shot out immediately as he read it. âwho the fuck is lilith?â because it couldnât be the first thing that came to mind when it came to that name, could it? no â that would be crazy, right? all the crazy shit that he sees and only till now did he feel something like that was insane. âyouâre a shitty liar.â he muttered, trying to calm himself down at least for his hearts sake, not that it was really working out for him. cade was alive but even seeing him in pain was enough to keep his adrenaline going. there was a bit of relief knowing that nothing on the inside was going on or else heâd be dragging his ass off against any protest. he couldnât be too mad with the response either, niko himself wasnât ever jumping to get any professional medical help and if he did, he had made them come to him in the past. they all learned how to patch themselves up. you know, applying duck tape like it fixed all, good as new. still, he sighed in disapproval as he took the bottle from him. he eyed him for a few more seconds, his eyes falling onto the area with the name that his brother had on him now. when cade spoke, nikoâs gaze traveled up to his brotherâs face noticing more clearer now the lack of energy in his eyes. bringing the bottle up to his lips he threw his head back, taking a long swig, focusing on the burn it left behind before forcing himself to pull it away from himself. âno fuckinâ clue.â he took a sharp inhale, glancing around where they were. he had simply followed what had popped up, without paying much attention to where he was walking into. âbut I got a video of you, itâŚâ he trailed off, shaking his head as he held the bottle back out in case cade wanted some more. âyou were passed out.â he imagined the worst, of course he did, anyone would. âhow did this happen?â
âassuming thereâs only one, then lilith would be the first demon.â judging by her power alone, cade assumed it had to be right. heâd never met a demon with her capabilities before, not even the higher up ones. a bark of a laugh sounded in the air. saying it out loud? it sounded absolutely nuts. heâd literally just got his ass handed to him by the first demon the fucking devil ever made. how about that. âaye, but iâm way too conscious to let you drag me to a hospital.â in his opinion it just wasnât necessary, not when he could patch himself up. cade couldnât help but feel guilty though, putting shawn in his position again, he knew he was probably having a mild heart attack on the inside -- it wasnât like cade didnât try to stay safe, sometimes shit just happened.âwell, at least she chose a bar.â thank god for alcohol. now all he needed was a handful of painkillers and a few days sleep. âvideo?â cade frowned, muttering a âfuck sakeâ under his breath. what a sick bitch. âdonât know, she just---â he gave a little head shake, decided to just admit fault, really. âi let her get in my head. she knew things, even spoke in--â another pause, lilith had spoken in georginas voice, thatâs what threw him. âi fucked up. hesitated. next thing it was lights out, then i woke up with a hand nailed to the table.â so fun fucking times, really. he sighed again, took another swig of the whiskey and looked up to niko. âsorry, man.â for making him worry, really. Â

âiâm telling you man, sheâs on our side. sheâs saved my ass, and deans, on multiple occasions. she wants lilith dead, and sheâs gonna help me stop her.â he knew it was hard to believe. hell, if the roles were swapped then sam would never have believed that a demon could be on their side. but he had to believe ruby was doing the right thing, he had to believe that everything he was going through would be worth it in the end. sure, he might have earned himself a one way ticket to hell, and his brother would never talk to him again, but he would save the world. it would be worth it. it had to be.Â
âi could stop, i did, but.. but i have to do this, because every day lilith gets closer to breaking the last seal, but everyday i get closer to finding her and stopping her.â sam said with some determination. âi get it, you have no reason to trust me. i know how this looks, and itâs bad. i know that, but you have to understand. i have to do this.. and i need you to not tell dean about what you saw here today. he doesnât understand what iâm trying to do here. heâd lock me in and force some.. ill informed detox on me, and then the world would be in shit.â
come on, man. what the hell are you doing. âwhat i have to.â
âand you donât find that weird? why would a demon want lilith dead? why would she want to help?â even the very thought didnât sit well with him, demons were monsters and that was that. it was black and white. at least it was in cadeâs mind. âright...â he frowned, finding himself in mild thought. this was an entirely new and strange situation to be in. he couldnât just get on board, which he expected sam would know or he wouldnât be stood there pitching a sale.Â
âand the people youâre hurting doing it?â gesturing once more to the bodies lying around, he shook his head. âiâve killed monsters for less. we all have.â what he was wondering was why should this be an exception? why should sam get a pass just because he felt his quest was a noble one? âoh come on, donât put that on me.â donât tell dean? of course he understood why, but whether or not he could keep this to himself was another question.Â
âaccording to who? who said you have to do this? ... i donât like it, sam, itâs all just a bit... untested.â as in, how did he know it would work? what if it was a trap? cade ran a hand over his face and sighed. âlilith is here, at least she was.â when he saw her, that was. cade looked towards sam. âlook, iâm all for keeping my mouth shut when someone has a secret but this... i donât know about this. everything in me wants to shoot you and everything else tells me you shouldnât be keeping this from dean.â

âprobably around five years ago, it burned to the ground so been a bit of a drifter ever since.â thereâs a small chuckle from her, despite the memory not be humours for her. sometimes she wished she had gone up in flames with it. she had poured the petrol as well as threw the match. alone. really, through her warmth and kindness, she was lonely. that feeling of home you got? died with her family. âyeah iâve noticed. grease with a side of burger. still hits the spot though.â for her anyway, she didnât really have any complaints. âoh,â she lets out an amused laugh at the mention of his sister kicking his ass. âmy lips are sealed.â she smirked. âyouâve come here with your family then? just you and your sister?â she asks, seeing the opening to do so. considering her assumption before, she was just confirming that.Â
âno shit? ... sorry.â he imagined there was a lot more to the story but he figured it was probably not one she wanted to share with a guy she just met. he didnât ask, to be honest, he could probably grasp the basic picture -- pain, death, so on and so forth. it was an obvious pattern for hunters at this point. âone of the highlights of being on the road. thereâs a burger joint in Iowa I had four years ago and I swear, Iâd drive there just to go again.â cade chuckled, tucking his hands in his pockets once theyâd set off. âyeah, brother too. thereâs just us now.â he shrugged, his words telling her that once upon a time, there was more of them. âhere for the same reason you are, i would think.â

âbecause i donât like change.â sheâs blinking innocently, clearly messing with him and yet keeping her features completely serious for a moment before she grins, now laughing. she watched him as she dug deeper into her sundae, fishing out the small pieces of chocolate brownie before scooping them out and popping them in her mouth. it was good to see she wasnât the only one silently on edgeâ how could they not be? it was the running theme to their lives. keep yourself protected and have your weapons on you. though, sometimes she didnât hold the latter. today she did, however. âokay.. okay, let it settle before we leave. got it.â she chuckles.Â
âriiiight. because nothing good ever comes from a little change. you sound like a grandma.â he shot back. thinking about it, he was probably going to regret eating as much as he had, especially with the chance that theyâd end up in a fight. the idea of moving? blegh. âyou should see some of the houses a few blocks down. one of them was like five bedrooms with a real garden, rent was cheap too.â probably because the previous occupants died, but still. âgettinâ tired of motel rooms and listening to you snore, the walls are too thin.â he teased, but honestly? the ide of a house sounded nice. âand i want a kitchen.â cade added. âweâd pay the same amount to rent a place as we would being in a motel, what do you think?â he wondered.Â

âsure,â she nodded, âi can put up with a warning.â she raised both brows in his direction, almost as if to say ha ha. siblings, ever so kind, right? âyeah and iâll put on record you said half a bottle.â she responds smugly, half and half with the blameâ only fair. âexactly and when he chokes thereâs enough time to run.â she chuckled, already thinking she would sitting opposite niko so she could see his face when it happened. though she probably wouldnât get very far, sheâd end up in stitches before she could even think about moving. âoh kind.â she rolls her eyes, clearly not amused. saying her thanks also to the waiter she reaches for her spoon and starts to make her way through the whip cream. âif youâre sick iâm gonna ditch you.â she was half joking, partly serious considering she knows she would be if she had eaten as much as he was about to.
âaw piss off. you know, you get a slap on the wrist and thatâs all. so why canât you take the full blame and save my ass getting kicked down the sidewalk, huh?â he was laughing, mainly because he didnât really care. heâd probably still be laughing if niko did start throwing punches. cade took another glance around the restaurant, checking out the new people whoâd entered. even when he didnât realise it, he was on guard. it didnât hurt to look, right? not that he was expecting to see anything -- monsters could look as normal as he did. âif iâm sick itâll be because you make me get up outta this booth too quickly.â he warned. âotherwise, just give me about ten minutes then you can roll me out the door.â

âlife on the road sucks, huh?â she notes his choice of we. so that told her he wasnât aloneâ which to her meant there was hunters with him. at least he wasnât alone, so there was a plus. âi used to have a set home, the views out the window were beautifulâ donât appreciate it anymore though.â the places she had been to and seen through her work were mesmerising, she just couldnât stop and think wow. the guilt and grief consumed her thoughts to the point sheâd tell herself she wasnât allowed to enjoy the simplicity of life. âif i was vegan i wouldnât be here.â she joked, meaning the gym and her getting into shape. âburger sounds good.â the only thing she wasnât keen on were the fries, sure, she liked them, but she liked the thick home cooked ones better. she hadnât yet been somewhere that did those, they were always thin. what was that about? âmhm, just because youâre a man doesnât make you invincible.â she chuckled, now heading out of the door. of course she doesnât doubt he canât protect himself, she was sure he could, but she liked to look after her own.
âyeah, but what are you gonna do about it? donât think iâd be able to settle down in one place.â he used to think he could when he had georgina, he wanted to settle in a quiet town and have a family. naturally, that all changed when he lost her. he realised there would probably not be any peace for him in this life. âwhenâs the last time you were there?â wherever her set home was, he meant. he assumed it would be turkey but it could be somewhere else for all he knew. âsure thereâs a place a couple minutes away, most places here serve the same type of grease though.â from what heâd already seen on his ventures. âoh believe me, iâm under no illusion of that.â cade laughed. his injuries past and present told him as much. âi know a few women who could kick my ass. my sister being one of them, but if you ever meet her i implore you not to tell her i admitted it.â

she shrugged her shoulders as if to say âyour lossâ before giving him a smile when he agreed. she grabbed the beer that was placed down in front of her and moved to sit next to him. âwell, i learned by watching my grandma and i read a book on it once, so let that say what it will,â she said once she was seated on the stool. placing the beer on the counter, she held her hand out. âgive me your hand.âÂ
âalright. sounds promising,â well it did if her grandma was any good. not that he had his hopes up ( maybe a part of him even hoped she was terrible, at least then he could ignore whatever she was about to say to him if it was horrible. ) âmy hand? right...â he paused, glancing between them, since one was wrapped up hiding a hole that was stabbed through it, he upturned the bruised one and offered it over to her. âbetter if you donât ask. though i guess if youâre legit you donât have to.â he teased.Â

âYouâre not the first and you wonât be the last. Trust me.â The number of people that didnât want to be treated with life threatening issues was high. Some out of money, some out of pride. They all had their reasons but sheâd got pretty good at working out which ones are which. âItâs not a bad thing at all. I wish I was more travelled but sadly, duty calls.â
âNot a snitch then, huh?â He figured not, unless he left before an officer came to question him on what happened. He wasnât even sure which fake card Niko used to pay for the insurance, or if he paid at all. âThereâs always vacations. Sometimes I think those might be better.â Than not being able to say you had roots, he meant. âEver been to Bali? Itâs beautiful.âÂ

âi have a friend.. a demon friend. which i know, goes against everything we stand for, but she wants to stop lilith just as much as we do.â ruby was on their side, she had proved it enough times by saving them over and over. if she really wanted them dead, she would have just left them to their own devices. theyâd probably be dead if it wasnât for her. and if lilith wanted lucifer free, and ruby wanted lucifer dead, then surely they were on the same team. it wasnât perfect, but it was an advantage.Â
âiâm not an addict.â and he wished everyone would stop calling him that. he wasnât drinking the demon blood because it was fun, he didnât enjoy it. he had to do it though, to get strong enough to defeat lilith. he just knew, that something good could come of this whole thing. something good could come of his curse. âi know that this looks bad, but i just need you to trust me.â he needed someone to love to trust him, because his own brother sure as hell as didnât.Â
âsorry, you lost me at demon friend.â and it showed in the way his face turned sour. he was judging him -- didnât want to, but he couldnât help it. his hatred for demons ran deep and he assumed sam would know why, that he heard what happened to him and his girl, most did. âa good demon. iâm praying you realise how ridiculous that sounds.â though he hadnât lifted his gun back up, he certainly didnât feel comfortable enough to put it away.Â
âtelling me you could stop, then?â genuine question, curious nature. âit doesnât just look bad. if this was the other way around, would you trust me at my word?â lifting a brow, he shook his head. âwhat makes you think this will kill her? and who the fuck even introduced you to this? your demon friend? oh yeah, because that sounds promising.â he huffed out. âcome on, man. what the hell are you doing.â

she started laughing, not being able to help herself do anything but. she hadnât yet seen someone do something so stupid or funny, but then maybe that was because she hadnât really been out. suppose she didnât need to laugh at everyoneâs misfortune. âwell if you wanna chicken out..â she leaves that for him to decide, either way, she was down. she was even now thinking about how many sticky notes would be neededâ more so because she was thinking about how they could do the inside and outside of his car. she was even sniggering to herself. âyou want something hot,â she nodded, âmild wonât do anything.â even though she was technically deciding on the hotness, she wasnât actually buying it, so, it wouldnât be her fault. her jaw dropped a little when he was trying to pin the blame on her, the eyes from the other people sitting around? she felt them on her. âyouâre actually a pig,â sheâs shaking her head, trying not to chuckle as she now sees the desserts coming over.
âchicken out? fuck no, but weâre sharing the blame. and the ass kicking.â he joked, mainly because it would be his ass that got kicked and her ass that was only scolded. typical. âalright well iâm putting it on record that you suggested the hot one.â and hey, why not go all out and get flaming hot. âwhat you thinking, half a bottle?â cade snorted. âi mean, heâs only going to take a sip before he chokes. whatâs the worst that could happen?â that was his logic anyway. âyeah, but only for you, sis.â because she found it so disgusting, how could he help himself. âohhh look at this.â rubbing his hands together, he thanked the waiter when she placed the desserts down. âlooks good.â
