Oily and shiny skin: understanding its needs with CC!
Choose the right skincare products
Paradoxically, oily skin is often the most dehydrated. By repeatedly using cleansers and exfoliants labeled “cleansing” or “purifying”, you dry out your skin and encourage it to protect itself by producing even more sebum.
Why is your skin oily?
Oily skin permanently secretes excess sebum. This excess sebum, produced in abnormal quantities, leads to the appearance of blackheads and an unwanted shiny appearance. There are various reasons for excess sebum.
Genetics
Genetics plays a role in determining whether or not you have oily skin. 70% of people with oily skin have a close relative with oily skin.
Hormones
The second cause of excess sebum is related to hormonal imbalances. Male hormones stimulate the secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands and therefore have a strong impact on the general appearance of the skin. It is why our skin is often more oily during adolescence (when both boys and girls experience a peak in testosterone) or at the beginning of the menstrual cycle (just before menstruation), when our estrogen levels are relatively low.
Most of the time, hormonal disturbances accentuate the appearance of pimples on the chin. These pimples can sometimes be subcutaneous and very painful.
The effect of UV light
You’ve probably noticed that your pimples give way to a smooth, tanned peach complexion in the summer. Unfortunately, when September comes around, and you go back to work, the pimples come back in force, more numerous and persistent.
What causes this rebound effect? The answer is simple: under the effect of the sun and its UV rays, the skin does not become healthier but thickens. In other words, it forms a protective layer, which does not prevent the formation of blackheads but retains them within it. When the skin is no longer exposed and regains its normal thickness thorough cleansing and exfoliation, it can then evacuate all the sebum retained during the weeks (or even months) of exposure to the sun: this is when blackheads and pimples appear.
Environmental aggressions
In addition to the effect of UV rays, your skin can be the victim of environmental aggressions, which can worsen your sebum secretion. Pollution, for example, directly clogs the skin’s pores. Smoking and alcohol clog your bronchial tubes and burden your liver, which has repercussions on the general condition of the skin, which is our main emunctory organ. Increased smoking will increase your sebum secretion in the cheeks and under the nose. A bad state of your liver will lead to the appearance of pimples in the middle of the forehead. Bad eating habits can upset your flora and intestinal barrier and give you pimples in various parts of the face. Your beauty routine must therefore include the adoption of a healthy diet. Finally, remember to clean your phone screen regularly: the proliferation of bacteria also contributes to the obstruction of your pores and the greasing of your skin.
The oily skin remedy: an adapted routine
There is no miracle cure to fight blackheads and shiny skin. As with dry skin, combination skin, sensitive skin, or mature skin, you must follow a healthy lifestyle and adopt a cosmetic routine adapted to your skin type.

How to keep your tan after going back to school?
How to keep your tan after going back to school?
It is more a question of maintaining the color of the tan. This is because only UV radiation can trigger the production of melanin (and therefore a tan) by the skin’s specialized cells, the melanocytes. As soon as you are no longer exposed to the sun, the tan is gradually eliminated with the skin’s natural desquamation, i.e., between 3 and 4 weeks. Nevertheless, two techniques practiced at the DermoMedicalCenter in Paris and Brussels allow you to keep your summer glow: superficial peeling and mesolift.
