Podcast Girls Week Day 4
I wonder SO much about Eris from Wolf 359. She was an AI who had no stable crew. Hera was the "mother program" that took care of the station and the crew inside it, and Rhea was the same way; both developed real fondness, friendship, and solidarity with their humans over time. Enlil we see less of but he seems to like his job flying a jet, and have positive interactions with his passengers.
But Eris was designed to be antagonistic. that's her job. she meets a crew once, puts them through a VR dream nightmare, and teaches them to appreciate each other more when she's not there harassing them.
WHAT was her socialization like? Does she ever get any stability? She gets fractured into iterations and placed in boxes on stations, with the data beamed back to Earth. does she have memories of all these selves, all these human crews she met once just to torment... she seems almost wistful when she meets Lovelace. Does she like her life? Does she like her job? Does she have other AI friends??? Eris deserves a life post-Goddard. Set her free to be an internet troll, she'd get to carry out her function while also meeting all sorts of people.

you can really get a lot of mileage for your other, worse qualities out of being friendly and gregarious and kind. i just accidentally kept my neighbors standing outside chatting too long because i got on a tear about our landlord and felt kinda bad once i got inside BUT then i remembered i am so sweet to them all the time and they are sweet to me, so its fine. its fine to be weird sometimes. people dont really care that much if you can successfully communicate that youre on their team

was talking to a coworker and realised i could not for the life of me remember his name but i was too embarrassed to ask because we've spoken multiple times so mid-conversation i started concocting a plan to nudge the conversation towards the ID photos on our building passes so that i could be like oh my ID photo is awful haha the camera they use to take these has a real talent for making me look as unphotogenic as possible and then he would say oh yes me too haha everyone says that (because they do) and then i would be able to say well let me see yours it can't be as bad as mine! and he would show me his ID because we are coworkers and why wouldn't he and this would allow me to see his building pass which of course would have his name on it and then i would be able to say well yours is perfectly nice it must be me that's the problem! and then we would have a polite chuckle about it and i would have his name without needing to ask for it and he would be none the wiser and all would be well but then before i could execute this fine plan a little voice in my head went "so this is some light yagami bull shit you are about to pull" which was such a violent reality check it shocked me completely out of my embarrassment and i went "hey im so sorry your name has slipped my mind could you remind me" and he did and it was fine.

A 1-on-1 is not idle chit chat. It is a conversation with a purpose—to agitate, educate and inoculate a fellow worker. Adding alcohol to the mix will never help your cause.
— transcript —
Organizing Don'ts #3 [a little black cat says: Don’t have one on ones over alcohol.]
1-on-1s must happen outside of work. The pub* therefore seems a fine place to agitate. [the little black cat who is wearing an apron and is about to serve coffee and oatmeal asks a coworker “Wanna chat after work?” The coworker, a panda bear, says: “Let’s go for pints!”]
*You shouldn’t be going to the pub in COVID-19 anyway!
To have a good organizing conversation, it helps for both of you to be sober.[the little black cat and the coworker are at a pub, drinking messily. The cat yells: “March on the boss!” the panda bear says: “Let’s both quit!”]
Find non-alcohol related opportunities for Agitation, Education and Inoculation. [the little black cat is putting on a winter coat after the shift and asking their coworker: “Wanna carpool tomorrow?” the panda is putting on a mitten and replies: “Sure!”]
