Exercise 4

For the fourth exercise I mainly just wanted to practice animating the transformation of liquid to solid, because a similar scene plays out in my short film.

Exercise 3

This exercise was probably the hardest for me, so I now know this is something I should practice and improve upon. I wanted to practice moving the camera, so in my first pass I just animated it just from my head to get a sense of where I was at. For the second pass, I filmed my own reference, and tried to use it as a guide.

Excercise 2

For this exercise I wanted to distort an image. I first created a simple illustration as the base (first image), then did two passes of distortion on the same base image. For the first pass (middle image), I tried using different tools to distort the colors and shape to create an image I liked. I also used a lot of layering. For the second pass (last image), I used less layering and focused on distorting more of the actual illustration.

An update on my progress for Bloombreak so far. I've completed some of my roughs and what's next is finishing my rough animation and starting the final line work, as well as finishing backgrounds and any assets needed for compositing.

Here I decided to share my WIP animatic and two versions of a style frame.

Excercise 1

My self-directed research involves animation exercises that allow me to experiment with distortion and pushing the animation. With this first exercise I did two passes, the first(left) being my first attempt at a random idea, and the second(right) being after some reworking and inspiration. I mainly wanted to get a good start with this exercise and loosen up a bit. In the first pass I felt stuck so I just tried to get something down. On the second pass I focused on adding a few more frames and implementing basic principles. However, I think if I were to do another iteration I would add some more frames as well as some effects.

I used flipaclip for the first pass and procreate dreams for the second.
