Even during the Clone War, there were people who still loved the Jedi, HER MOM WORKED IN THE JEDI GARDEN AND SAW MASTER YODA SITTING AMONGST THE FLOWERS, can you imagine how you're just doing your job and you suddenly look over and see the most mystic, wonderous sight you'd ever seen?
Tumblr media
I would cry, if I got to see Yoda sitting amongst the flowers and connecting with nature. (Star Wars: Stories of Jedi and Sith)

Just drafted my August fic round up and it already has almost 30 fics on it for ONE fandom. There's still another week and a half left in the month. What the fuck.

Concept: Post-canon Murderbot loses all memories from post-All Systems Red. It remembers hacking its governor module but it doesn't remember living as a rogue SecUnit. It either doesn't have memories of PresAux or still has those early memories from when they were more client than friend, so it doesn't know how to interact with all these humans who are so familiar and friendly with it.
And then there is Three, who seems proud of being rogue SecUnit and has experience making CHOICES and SITTING and talking with the humans like a person, not equipment. To Murderbot, Three seems like a pipe dream. How could it possibly become something like Three? Does it want to? What DOES it even want??

I've never been scared of getting lost even though I have a terrible sense of direction. Getting lost sounds nice (even if I know logically it isn't). Sometimes I can't stare at the treeline too long because my body wants nothing more than to keep walking until I can't possibly find my way back again.
I think the reason why I loved the Labyrinth growing up is because having an endless maze of twisting corridors to explore sounds like the Best Time Ever. And the back rooms has always been super comforting to me. Getting to explore all these abandoned buildings forever, stuck in that safe in-between place where nothing is expected of you except to keep moving forward, is the ideal purgatory imo

"SecUnit would write fanfic"
"It would only beta read and leave comments"
SecUnit would install itself as a moderator of the Sanctuary Moon fandom wiki page. SecUnit would, for the simple transgression of being annoying - delete your account, IP ban, find your personal email address and send you a citation-laden 5 page explanation about how you're wrong titled "Banned for life (idiot)"

"I sort fics by kudos and only kudos on stories with high kudos counts, why aren't there more stories with high kudos, I ran out of things to read." You're part of the problem.
"Authors artificially inflate comment counts by thanking people, I can't find anything with a real comment count to read." No they fucking are not, they're grateful for engagement.
"I can't read anything under 100k." That's the majority of fics you're ignoring, most novels aren't even that long.
"I don't have time to look for the incredibly rare diamond in the rough, so I won't read anything below a certain amount of kudos, comments, and hits." Those fics are popular because people gave them a chance and then snobs like you found them.
"I won't read anthing with a single typos." You made typos in that sentence, get off your high horse.
"One singular author didn't thank me for commenting, I'm never commenting on any fic again so I don't get burned." You're punishing people because someone didn't give you engagement they don't owe you that they might not have seen.
"This fic is three months old, it's so old, it doesn't matter if I comment or kudos, it's old." Fics do not have expiration dates, comment and kudos.
You're killing your fandoms with your snobbish behaviors.

asking for praise for a thing you made feels so humiliating like oooh look at me I’m a little animal and I did a trick and made a thing can I have pets and treats about it. and then somebody tells you it’s good and you understand why golden retrievers are the way they are

characters raised to be tools
Weapons. Trained, tested, forged in steel and fire. Failure is an inevitability that ends in death. Pain should not be felt--it should be recognized, familiar, and inconsequential
Martyrs. In the form of servants and princes, of leaders and underdogs. If blood is necessary, the martyr will lift their hands and offer it all
Shields. Like tempering a sword, but only to bear and not to lash out. Wounds are medals--not symbols of pride, but symbols of worth. A pretty shield is useless; scars mean a job well done
Experiments. Raised on the cold comfort of a lab table. Restraints are only necessary when they're not in their right mind. Is it honorable, to be twisted beyond recognition? Or is it just a necessary evil?
Monsters. Cruelty, caution, and regarding one as a creature beyond reasonable thought is tempering in its own right. But if you keep a leash at the right length, perhaps the massecre won't reach you. One can hope.
Idols. Pretty face, pretty name, pretty hands around their shoulders and throat. There to seduce, manipulate, force any feeling to come to the surface and twist it to their favor. Any genuinity stays locked behind the guilded cage that surrounds their pretty little heart
Trophies. Status and wealth and the traditions that keep someone at their heels, on their knees, to display and serve and decorate one's ballroom.
Sacrifices. Drenched in honorable clothes, prepared and adored and cleansed. The gift of hope at the cost of one's life. Is it taken with no fight? How can you escape the ropes you were born in?

"why do you write?" because it’s the only way to silence the characters pacing around my brain like victorian ghosts with unresolved issues that prevent them from moving on.

Was going to make a post about how murderbot makes friends with other bot systems so easily, and how frequently it describes their personalities as “the friendly secsystem” or somesuch and personifies these entities that the humans just see as tools. Then I started thinking about the separatists’ system in System Collapse and how Murderbot remarks that it might be friendly, or it might just be that it hasn’t explicitly been programmed to be unfriendly. And then I started thinking about ART, and how Murderbot calling it an asshole is basically a term of endearment. And now I’m thinking about how subservience can look like friendliness, and how being able to choose when and to whom to be kind is a cornerstone of murderbot’s personhood. Being a hater as a form of self-actualization.

We all know that Qui-gon asking Shmi who Anakin’s father was was an incredibly personal question and if she was totally lying to him I support her in that however I was thinking about it and started dying bc. there are like. two plausible explanations for him asking and I find both of them somewhat hilarious
1. The Jedi have no concept of the wider social norms regarding things like pregnancy and single parenthood, etc. because the vast majority of them will never have children plus they’re a giant communal village of psychics. They have no idea what is and is not appropriate to ask. It is the one situation that their training cannot prepare them for
2. Qui-gon is looking down at the midichlorian count and back up at Anakin. And then back to the count and then back at Anakin again trying to figure out if this kid looks like anyone he knows. Sweet force that would be awkward. Maybe he should call Obi-Wan and ask him to look up the last time a Jedi was assigned to come to Tatooine. But no, no accessing that info without anyone’s consent would be rude. Surely it would be more polite to ask her directly.

rip dr. mensah. imagine you're a middle aged woman who ends up taking in this person with no clear chronological age but the undeniable aura of a lost baby animal, and you don't really know what they get up to when they leave home for months at a time but they always come back and hey, this time they even brought someone home for you to meet!
but it's kind of a weird meeting because their partner did technically pull up and shove them into a white van while they were standing on the side of the street with your teenage daughter.
and then they took off from the cops with them both in the backseat.
and none of this is really their partner's fault because they were technically being held at gunpoint the entire time (the people responsible for that are buried in a ditch on the side of the interstate now for unrelated reasons).
and then all 3 of them roll up to your house with the van clearly having just gone through the car wash and had its interior cleaned, and it's as if they are trying to give you the impression that they Are Indeed A Normal Person For Your Lost Baby Animal To Be With and you know they most certainly are not but hey, you love your Lost Baby Animal and you are happy if they're happy. and the whole abduction of your loved ones isn't even the weirdest part because, I should also mention, their partner IS the van.

Random headcanon: the reason that Peach and Bowser don’t seem to get a lot of respect in some Super Mario games is because the Mushroom Kingdom is kind of a rural backwater and isn’t terribly important or influential politically, so people tend to regard Bowser as a C-list villain for being so hung up on such an insignificant conquest. Nobody really expects Bowser to be a serious threat – that would be like expecting a guy whose main claim to fame is repeatedly failing to conquer Wyoming to be a serious threat – so they get taken by surprise every single time.

If you're having a private phone conversation with the phone off your ear, no headphones, and the speaker on in public, that's a public conversation now. That's an open invite, and I'm going to chime in if I have an opinion. This is now OUR disagreement about your boyfriend's spending habits.
