Just to tack on a slightly more pedestrian point: Musk will proudly tell people he'll never go to therapy. Which he obviously desperately needs. So he's also an object lesson in the danger of rejecting mental health support.

I bring it up because most of us will never grapple with the question of how to responsibly sit at the top of the capitalism pyramid, but we will probably all need therapy sometimes.

I think that Elon Musk is an object lesson in moral philosophy.

Like, he's the epitome of self-interest; the closest thing real life can produce to a Randian hero. And by any reasonable standard, he's won at life! He's the richest man ever to live, and he's getting richer; he controls the channels of information and communication; the government of what remains the world's only superpower waits on his command. If capitalism had a victory condition, he would surely have achieved it. And yet...

He's empty. He's an absolute sucking void of neediness. His own children hate his guts. He pays professional gamers to run up impossibly high scores in every game under the sun because the pale glow of being praised by epic bacon chuds online is the closest thing that he can feel to love.

Like. I can't tell you what a soul is, but I think you neglect it at your peril.

I'm looking at the Thompson index of folklore tropes because I'm writing more fairy tales for a client, and so many of the ones that are about knowing your place are things we've done.

"Don't try to measure the height of the heavens"- we've done it. it's called the Karman line, it's about 62 miles, and past that "height" has no meaning anymore

"Don't try to measure the depth of the ocean"- we've done it. at its deepest it's about 7 miles.

"Don't try to fly"- Messrs. Wright would like to have a word with you.

and the sad thing is, so many people still live by this kind of folktale-rule, and more like them. "don't try to be too wise", "don't try to be too happy", "don't stick up for yourself", "don't try to change your body to be something that feels good" - all morals of commonly told folktales on this index.

people are intemperately wise and good and happy and are fine. people stick up for themselves every day and are fine. people change and grow in ways that feel good every day, and will keep doing it until the end of the world.

these rules are all just as wrong as "don't measure the height of the heaven" and "don't measure the depth of the ocean".

every time you talk about icarus, you should remember orville and wilbur, too.

unironically I would at least seriously consider letting the (cute) homies hit if I got turned into a woman. and I genuinely think it wouldn't be gay. if I were a woman it wouldn't be gay to let them hit. like most things in life I approach my sexuality more as an observer than a participant and so as long as I'm still having straight sex it wouldn't matter so much if I was playing the feminine role. well that's what I think and have thought but if it really happened maybe I would find I feel differently
